Ubud Kooklessen

Het was een flink eind rijden, maar daardoor hebben we wel een mooie rit gehad. We hebben genoten van het maken van traditionele Balinese gerechten, met leuke en informatieve smalltalk in een vriendelijke en gemoedelijke sfeer. Op de markt kregen we gedetailleerde informatie over onbekend fruit dat we nog nooit eerder hadden gezien, en het was interessant om slangenfruit te proeven dat, afhankelijk van de grootte, anders smaakte. We moesten wel negen gerechten bereiden, dus er was genoeg te doen. Het was leuk om te snijden, roerbakken en kneden, allemaal met uitleg, zodat het nooit saai werd. Een absolute aanrader!

We booked the 8:00 AM morning session, and a driver picked us up from the hotel. In the morning, we walked through a local market, which was a wonderful experience. Upon arriving at the kitchen, we were welcomed with a welcome drink, and then we started the cooking class. The cooking class was a lot of fun, filled with happiness and laughter. We got to eat the food we cooked ourselves, and it was delicious. All the staff had a great sense of humor and had fun along with us.

We joined the market visit at 8am, interesting to see themlocal traditional markets and some of their ingredients. Back at the hotel, our cooking class was held in a sheltered place, but with padi field all around and good breeze. Chef Budi and assistant Monika took good care of us. We cooked a Balinese sauce/seasoning to stir fry some minced chicken to make a salad. The same sauce was used to season fish for steaming, wrapped in banana leaves. It was grilled to give extra flavour. Rest of the minced chicken was seasoned before putting them on sticks to grill over coconut shell charcoal. For dessert we made oandan thin pancakes with gula melaka/coconut as fillings. Overall excellent experience and enjoyed the cooking class and dining what we prepared. Strongly recommend.

Experience: Overall, extremely satisfied and highly recommended! Service: The chef provided excellent guidance on Balinese snacks, demonstrating both professionalism and a willingness to share. The manager was very conversational and humorous, and the ladies providing service were friendly and professional 🥰 The delicious and beautifully presented food portions were generous, and we were able to take leftovers home! Location: Under the eaves next to the infinity pool, the comfort level was excellent. We also enjoyed a beautiful distant view of the natural landscape.
