Sarawak

The weather is really bad, thunderstorms and lightning. We thought that we would not be able to see the animals in this trip. However, our tour guide, Mr. Hamdini, is very experienced and knowledgeable on where to find the Proboscis monkey. As it was raining, he went to scout for the animals, while keeping us safe in the shelter.. Once, he found the monkeys, he came and brought us to the spot. We managed to see a few groups of Proboscis monkeys, male, female and the juvenile monkeys. We also saw the bearded pig and flying lemur. Thumb up for Mr. Hamdini our guide.

Unfortunately, it's fruit season in this park until the end of March or even mid-April, so the orangutans don't come to the feeding station. However, the guide, Mr. Mas Daud, suggested an alternative: another wildlife park, about an hour from Kuching. However, the animals there are in enclosures, as it's a rescue center and each animal has had a less-than-pleasant past. But I saw a lot on the circular route of about an hour. The guide was simply sensational, explained a lot, and when he knew that I was also interested in small animals, he stopped everywhere and showed me some that I, as a tourist, wouldn't have seen at all. All in all, a perfect afternoon tour, highly recommended.

The trip was enriching and exciting. First hand experience at blow darting and trying out the different delicacies. Note: bring lots of small change of RM5 so that you can purchase the different delicacies at the different houses. Our guide, Mr Yusof was very informative! Oh, we also spotted Silver Langurs at the area. The performance at the theatre was so good!

We were picked up at our hotel right on time by the very friendly guide Mas Daud and a driver (didn’t catch his name). The drive to Gunung Gading National Park took about 1.5 hours. We were greeted at the Park by Antonia, a freelance park guide. You can tell Antonia is passionate about her job and equally passionate about all the plants in the forest. We were regaled with information about the various plants and flowers we saw off the trail. And most important of all, we saw a fully bloomed Rafflesia!! It appears Antonia keeps track of all the Rafflesia buds and has perfect knowledge of the probability when these very elusive and beautiful flowers will bloom. She was able to point out numerous other Rafflesia buds which we wouldn’t have spotted at all. Be sure to request for the very friendly and very knowledgeable Antonia if you fancy catching sight of the beautiful Rafflesia when you are visiting the Gunung Gading National Park.

I had such a great time. It was an eye opening experience at the cultural village getting to know about the history. it was a beautiful place. the wildlife centre was also amazing, we got to see 6 of the orangutans! it was a long queue to go in and jam packed due to the holidays but Mr Yusof pulled through and got us in quick! Hes such a fun and friendly guide, keeping us entertained throughout the whole tour. He's really informative and full of knowledge, we learned lots from him! Highly recommended tour and guide. The process was easy and straight forward.

This is a tricky review. First of all, the company and especially Den our guide were first rate excellent and we would recommend them completely. However, that said, the actual treks to look for animals was pretty underwhelming as you basically walked for maybe 1 km on walkways and hardly penetrate the actual. jungle. Our guide was excellent in explaining the different fauna and flora and we did see Silver Leaf and Proboscis monkeys, a green viper, a frog and a poisonous worm. No crocs and pics of monkeys were very hard to get clearly unless you had pro level kit. But the worse part was the accomodation: we imagined that we would be trekking someway into the jungle to stay in some kind of lodge but in reality we were in a block house just behind the entrance centre 100m from the beach. Our room was just about functional with a mattress on the floor, a fridge, 2 fans and a lot of mould on the walls. It was not the best night's sleep. Food at the centre was good though.

What an adventure. One of the best tours I've done. The hike at times was rough but it added to the adventure. Great guides. Would so do again on next visit.
