Sensoji Temple

Located in Asakusa district, Tokyo, Sensoji Temple, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, is Tokyo's oldest temple and a sacred spot across Japan, drawing more than 30 million visitors each year. According to legend, over 1,400 years ago during the Edo period, two brothers discovered a statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, while fishing in the Sumida River. No matter how many times they returned the statue to the water, it kept coming back to them. That's why Sensoji Temple was built nearby in 645, making it the oldest temple in Tokyo and a Shinto shrine dedicated to Kannon. Throughout the year, the temple grounds host exciting events like the Sanja Matsuri festival in May, the Asakusa Samba Carnival in August, and the traditional Hagoita Market, where decorative paddles are sold for a fun game called hanetsuki. Discover the ancient traditions and lively culture of Senso-ji Temple—a must-see destination in Tokyo!

Fantastic 5.0
Strolling through Asakusa in Tokyo, time seems to slow down. This is where the modern, bustling city meets traditional Japanese culture most closely. And there's no better way to experience Asakusa than by donning an exquisite kimono. **The Starting Point for a Journey Through Time** Stepping out of the kimono rental shop today, the crisp "clack, clack" of wooden geta sandals announces the official beginning of Asakusa's classical romance. **Kaminarimon and Nakamise-dori: Through the Thunder Gate and Along the Bustling Path** Passing through the giant red lantern, you walk along the lively approach to the temple. Dressed in a colorful kimono with elegant patterns, holding a freshly baked ningyo-yaki, you'll find yourself effortlessly blending into this ukiyo-e scene, rich with Edo-period charm. **The Lingering Incense of Senso-ji Temple** Standing before the main hall, you join the crowd in wafting the fragrant smoke over yourself, praying for peace. At this moment, the wide sleeves of your kimono gently flutter in the breeze, creating a beautiful contrast with the surrounding vermilion carvings and painted structures. Every snapshot is a stunning view. A gentle breeze blows, smoothing the delicate folds of the kimono. Here, a kimono is more than just clothing; it's a passport to an immersive experience of traditional Japanese aesthetics. I want to use this elegant posture to create a warm and memorable time in Asakusa. **Location: Asakusa**

It was a great experience. I got chopsticks that I made myself, and they turned out amazing. My boyfriend chose Sonokeling wood; it's hard, but he did a great job. I liked Yakusugi; it was my favorite type of wood from the first time I saw it.

The photos turned out even better than we imagined, and every shot was beautifully captured. You made us feel comfortable throughout the session, and your professionalism, patience, and attention to detail truly showed. We’re so grateful for these precious memories that we’ll cherish forever. Thank you for a job well done!

I booked this and the Kintsugi art class they offer and was so impressed. The staff were amazing and the place is amazing! My husband and I started with making chopsticks. They have a couple you can choose from that were included or you can upgrade to some other chopstick options. We went with the ones included. We worked with Umar and he was so patient and kind to explain each step of the process. For a small additional fee you can also have your name engraved in Japanese which we did! I would highly recommend adding this to your next trip to Tokyo!

I had such a great time here! It was really exciting to see the sumo wrestlers up close, and we also got to enjoy traditional Japanese food and sake during the show. One of the most entertaining parts was when guests were invited to step into the ring and try wrestling with the sumo wrestlers. I didn’t get picked this time, but watching other people give it a try was still so much fun! It was a very memorable experience and a fun way to learn more about Japanese culture. The whole event had a great atmosphere, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something special to do in Japan!

my mom and I came here to get something to bring home as a souvenir that we could use and show off, and we did not regret it! the instructor Laura was very involved and patient with us, as it could be intimidating to deal with new equipment and we had to be careful to not break our rings in the process. I got a vintage coin from the Taisho era and it was a nice reminder of Japan. my mom got a vintage Singaporean coin from the 70s as it was nostalgic for her. both turned out comfortable and beautiful, we can't wait to show them off to our friends and family!

What to know before visiting Tokyo

What to do in Tokyo throughout the year

Tokyo draws travellers for Observation decks, Museums and Theme parks, with Cultural experiences and Tours also popular year-round. Klook booking data show heavy peaks in January, February and December, so expect crowds and lively atmosphere then; the quietest stretch is late summer. Use those rhythms to pick what suits you: festival-like energy and skyline views in the peak months, or calmer museum and neighbourhood visits in quieter months. For choosing when to go, the key decision is whether you want peak-season buzz or a more relaxed visit — pick atmosphere or space. All figures come from Klook booking data.

Best months to visit and typical prices

December is the busiest month on Klook, with the demand series showing Peak demand in December and strong activity in January and February; August is the quietest month with very low demand. Prices drift through the year: Klook price data show the priciest months around July–August and the most affordable typical prices in June. Where demand and price diverge is useful — August is very quiet but still among the priciest months, while June combines lower prices with gentler demand. For lower prices and smaller crowds choose June or the quieter autumn months; for peak-season atmosphere aim for December or early-year months.

Month Demand Level Typical Price
January Peak demand MYR 81
February Peak demand MYR 81
March About average MYR 77
April Busier than usual MYR 73
May About average MYR 73
June About average MYR 69
July Very quiet MYR 93
August Very quiet MYR 93
September Very quiet MYR 85
October Quieter than usual MYR 77
November Busier than usual MYR 73
December Peak demand MYR 81

Demand is bookings in that month compared with a typical month, from historical Klook booking data, grouped into the demand levels above; typical price is the median paid on Klook in that month; prices are shown with their currency code. Based on Klook booking data, July 2025 – June 2026.

Where to stay: districts compared by nightly price

Klook hotel data show Ikebukuro as the most affordable district with a typical nightly rate around MYR 385, and Shibuya as the priciest at about MYR 973, a gap of roughly 60% between them. The more affordable end suits travellers who prioritise budget and quieter neighbourhood stays; these areas are a good fit for longer stays or travellers who plan to spend on experiences rather than rooms. The pricier end suits those seeking a central, trendier urban experience and are comfortable paying more for the local scene. All figures are based on Klook booking data.

Tips for travellers from Malaysia

Most Malaysian travellers book experiences in Tokyo about 12 days ahead, while the earliest planners reserve roughly 15 days out, according to Klook booking data. That means you have some flexibility — many experiences remain bookable a few days before — but in December and other peak months it pays to book earlier to secure popular time slots. Use Klook to compare typical prices and lock in experiences when you see a suitable slot; flexible planners can still find options closer in, while planners aiming for peak-season dates should book sooner rather than later.
