Sensoji Temple

Located in Asakusa district, Tokyo, Sensoji Temple, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, is Tokyo's oldest temple and a sacred spot across Japan, drawing more than 30 million visitors each year. According to legend, over 1,400 years ago during the Edo period, two brothers discovered a statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, while fishing in the Sumida River. No matter how many times they returned the statue to the water, it kept coming back to them. That's why Sensoji Temple was built nearby in 645, making it the oldest temple in Tokyo and a Shinto shrine dedicated to Kannon. Throughout the year, the temple grounds host exciting events like the Sanja Matsuri festival in May, the Asakusa Samba Carnival in August, and the traditional Hagoita Market, where decorative paddles are sold for a fun game called hanetsuki. Discover the ancient traditions and lively culture of Senso-ji Temple—a must-see destination in Tokyo!

a unique experience! The instructor was a lovely person (we ended up talking about anime locations in Tokyo 😅). The instructions were very clear and, above all, it was a lot of fun... this experience is 100% recommendable.

me & my 9 year old daughter had an amazing time making our own custom chopsticks. there were so many different woods to pick from categorized by difficulty, & each wood had a meaning which was super cute. I loved that the process was very easy and only took 4 simple steps. Tomo guided us through the process and it was extremely kind & helpful. amazing experience would definitely recommend for travelers to Tokyo & families.

Came here with my sister and nephew to turn old coins into rings. Good news: we left with rings. Even better news: we left with the same number of fingers we arrived with. This workshop was one of the highlights of our time in Asakusa. It’s oddly satisfying watching an old coin slowly become something you’d happily wear every day. You get to heat it, expand it, shape it, and polish it yourself. The hydraulic press also makes you feel far more qualified than you actually are. A massive thank you to Lydia, who made the whole experience so enjoyable. She was patient, encouraging, and explained everything clearly while giving us just enough freedom to feel like we were doing the work ourselves. Somehow, she also managed to stop us from making any expensive mistakes without making it obvious. Now every time I look at my ring, I get to say, “Thanks, I made it.” I just conveniently leave out the part where Lydia made sure I didn’t accidentally turn it into modern art.

The Tokyo: Traditional Kintsugi Making Experience was a very enjoyable experience. The workshop was very well set up for a variety of traditional experiences. Leonard, April and the other instructors were very helpful and encouraging. Would suggest not suitable for younger children due to the techniques required. Noting that there is no need to return as indicated in description (completed in original session). Highly recommend this experience.
