The JR Pass is primarily for JR-operated trains; however, it does not cover subways and cannot be used on certain high-speed trains like Nozomi and Mizuho. Additionally, it cannot be used on JR buses operated by companies other than JR or on express bus routes. For local public transport, consider using a Suica card or other local cards.

There are two main seat classes commonly found on Shinkansen (bullet trains) and Tokkyu (limited express trains): Green Cars (first class) and Ordinary Cars (standard). Green Car seats offer first-class service, with wider legroom and noticeably more comfort compared to Ordinary Car seats. Since Green Car seats are also more expensive, they’re generally less crowded.

You should book your JR Pass at least two weeks before your flight to Japan. This allows enough time for your Exchange Voucher to arrive, which you'll need to swap for the JR Pass in Japan. The Exchange Voucher will be sent to you by mail or available for pickup, depending on where you book.

For children aged 0-5, a JR Pass is not required. However, they are not allowed to occupy a seat and they can only sit on an adult's lap. If you would like them to have a seat, they will need their own JR Pass

Your child can have a child pass if they’re still 11 during the date of issue of the Exchange Order. Only those who are 12 and above when the Exchange Order is being issued will need an adult pass.

Yes, you will need to include everything as per how it shows on your passport. This is because your Exchange Order is only valid if the name you filled in and the name on your passport match. *For hyphenated names, please use a space instead. For apostrophes, please omit entirely.

Yes, you can order for someone else, as long as you fill in the right details that corresponds with the traveller. Ensure that the name and gender of the passholder matches his/her passport.

Depart to Japan within 3 months from booking date: Confirmation is usually instant but may take up to 24 hours due to security checks. If not received after 24 hours, please contact Klook customer service.

Depart to Japan more than 3 months from booking date: Your exchange voucher will be confirmed and issued approximately 70 days before departure.

To cancel your JR Pass, kindly contact us. Please note that there is a 10% cancellation fee withheld from the refund. If you have already received your exchange order, you will need to return the torn exchange order when requesting a cancellation.

After receiving your Exchange Order from Klook, bring it to Japan and redeem it at any JR Ticket Office by showing your Exchange Order and passport. The Exchange Order is valid for 90 days from the booking confirmation date, and can be exchanged for the JR Pass at any time within this period. No, they aren’t able to redeem the JR Pass on your behalf. You will have to redeem it yourself at a JR Ticket Office in Japan, during which a JR staff will need to verify the identity of the passholder.

To redeem your JR Pass: You will need to complete a form and present your Exchange Order along with your passport, which must have a temporary visitor stamp, for identification and immigration verification.

When exchanging your Exchange Order for a JR Pass, you can choose your start date.

This date will be the official date for which your JR Pass will be active for use, so do plan out your trip and choose wisely! The start date can be any day within 30 days and doesn’t have to be the date of exchange.

While seat reservations are not required for most JR trains, including local and rapid trains, it is recommended for Shinkansen and limited express trains, especially during peak travel seasons.

Once you have your JR Pass, you can reserve seats without any extra charges. You can do this either at a Ticket Office, called Midori-no-madoguchi, or at Reserved-Seat Ticket Machines, both available in JR Stations. If you choose the ticket office, show your JR Pass and tell the staff which train you want to take, and they'll help you pick your seats.

For the Reserved-Seat Ticket Machine option, you just need to scan the QR Code found in your JR Pass and then follow on-screen instructions. These machines can easily be spotted with the same green logo you can find near the midori-no-madoguchi.

To take Tokaido/ Sanyo/ Kyushu Shinkansen, passengers are required to make an advance reservation for both their seat and the baggage area. Please check the details here.

Your JR Pass will remain valid until the end of your journey if you happen to be on the train at midnight, given that you boarded the train before midnight. If you’re transferring to a shinkansen, limited express or express train after midnight, however, your JR Pass does not cover the extra charges.
