Saker att göra i Chiang Mai

Our hotel was outside the Old Town area, but we booked this tour because it offered pickup over a wide range. We participated as a family of two adults and three children (ages 3, 8, and 11). We shared the ride with two other groups, but it was a smooth experience. The day before, we received a confirmation email letting us know which car would pick us up. The cooking portion was for two adults, and the children helped the adults cook or wandered around when they got bored, as there was a chicken coop and a large garden nearby. The children received a set meal that included drinks, a rice plate similar to fried rice, and a mango with sweet sticky rice plate. The two adult portions we cooked were quite substantial, and our family was full after sharing them with the children. Other group members also shared one adult portion between two people. The assistants received the same menu as our children, and the quantity seemed sufficient. We adults each wanted to cook our own dishes, so we requested that, but some people took turns cooking, which might be a good option for couples. The instructor was kind and very easy to understand, even showing consideration for our children. The venue was truly stress-free and allowed us to relax. The food was delicious, the environment was pleasant, and our family of five thoroughly enjoyed it.

I booked a Thai cooking class with Mamanoi, the Chinese morning session, which starts at 9 AM and ends at 1:30 PM. The total duration was about four and a half hours. You don't need to prepare anything special, but I recommend wearing light clothing as the venue only has fans and no air conditioning. For those who attract mosquitoes easily, remember to take mosquito repellent precautions. The main process is as follows: At 9 AM, the staff from Mama's Kitchen picked us up from the hotel. Around 9:30 AM, they took a group of people to the local market. There was a dedicated Chinese and English-speaking teacher who explained various common Thai vegetables and spices. They covered everything from pandan leaves to red and yellow curries, and from different types of basil leaves and their aromas to various levels of chili spiciness. After the explanation, the teacher gave us fifteen minutes of free time to explore the market. After visiting the market, the staff drove us to "Mama's Kitchen," where the Chinese and English classes were held separately. Teacher TAN first let us choose the main dishes we wanted to cook. I chose the combination of "Pad Krapow + Green Curry + Tom Yum Soup." You can choose three main dishes, which can be two main courses and one soup. Thai milk tea and mango sticky rice are mandatory desserts and do not need to be chosen. After the teacher recorded our selections, she took us on a tour of the farm. After our farm tour, the teacher went to prepare the ingredients for cooking. Once everyone had taken photos and returned to the classroom, the class officially began. First, we pounded the curry paste and various spices, then chopped the different ingredients. The preparation for each dish was done separately. After completing the preparation for one dish, the teacher gave everyone a small mesh cover to protect the prepared ingredients from flies. Once everything was ready, we started cooking. Cooking over an open flame is fast, but controlling the heat can be challenging. Throughout the process, everyone was like a robot; we didn't have to think at all, just followed the teacher's instructions to complete the three dishes. However, this process was quite hectic, and I couldn't take any photos myself. If you want to capture good photos, it's better to have a companion dedicated to taking pictures. After eating, the teacher guided us in making Thai milk tea and mango sticky rice. After the itinerary concluded, the teacher asked everyone for their desired drop-off locations. You could return to your hotel, or tell the teacher where you wanted to go, and the teacher would help arrange transportation to your destination. Overall, it was a pretty good experience.

Our guide, Dum, was incredibly thoughtful, meticulous, and patient. He explained every attraction in great detail. When he talked about elephants, it felt like being back in a university lecture – his explanations were so detailed and vivid, giving us a deeper understanding of elephants and local culture. During our interactions with the elephants, the guide proactively helped us take photos with them! He made sure no one left disappointed, haha. One of the children in our group seemed to have hurt their foot, and without a second thought, the guide immediately took off his own slippers to offer them to the child. 😂😂😂 He was truly so considerate. Finally, I highly recommend visiting the Sticky Waterfalls. The timing of our visit was perfect, so there weren't many people, and we had an absolute blast. The cool river water splashing down was incredibly refreshing. Just note that it closes at 4:30 PM, so plan your time well if you want to go multiple times. Overall, the itinerary was smooth, well-organized, and we were very well taken care of. We had a fantastic time! I will definitely recommend this tour to any friends visiting Chiang Mai in the future!

Älskade att kolla in Elephant Poo Paper Park (inte alls illaluktande haha) och Sticky Waterfall var så cool! Vattenfallet stängde dock klockan 16.30 så vi blev stressade av parkvakterna mot slutet. Sammantaget värt det för att slippa oroa sig för transport.

it’s a tough job. they made it seem so fun and easy joyful like a theme park. some customer are overweight and they had to pull them. salute. it’s safe but tiring. not for everyone. worth the price. lunch is delicious as well

Jag bokade 120 minuters blandad massage och den var helt underbar. Jag var avslappnad och kände mig bortskämd hela vägen. Platsen är ren och har en trevlig atmosfär. Du fyller i ett formulär med all information och tas snabbt till fotvätt och sedan din massage. Efter massagen kan du njuta av ditt te och riskakor innan du är redo att ta dig an dagen helt avslappnad.

Jag bokade en 2-timmars skrubb- och oljemassagekurs den här gången. Salongen var mycket orientalisk och teet under konsultationen var utsökt. Behandlingen var noggrann och skonsam, och jag var mycket nöjd. Min hud blev återfuktad och slät, och all överflödig svullnad försvann, vilket var underbart. Teet och godiset jag fick efteråt var så gott att jag köpte med mig hem. Jag är glad att jag valde den här salongen, även om det finns många i Chiang Mai.

Jag blev mycket glad över att upptäcka att detta är ett kooperativ som drivs primärt med syftet att rädda elefanter som är oönskade eller som deras ägare inte kan ta hand om. De lokala Karen-stammarna gynnas genom anställning och försäljning av varor till turister. Interaktionerna med elefanterna kunde inte vara bättre, med matning, bad och klappning som uppmuntrades. Guiderna talar utmärkt engelska och är angelägna om att svara på frågor och dela information. Jag bodde i djungellodgen efter min första dag och fann lugnet och tystnaden underbar efter Chiang Mais liv och rörelse. Nästa morgon tillbringades med mahouter som matade elefanter och sedan en promenad genom reservatet till ett naturskönt vattenfall före lunch på ett vägkafé. Ytterligare ett vattenfall och sedan tillbaka till ett annat reservat för en sista interaktion med elefanter innan en bussresa tillbaka till Chiang Mai. Varje turist jag mötte under de två dagarna var entusiastisk och njöt av varje ny upplevelse.
