Lake Kawaguchi

Lake Kawaguchi is in the southeast of Yamanashi, close to the Shizuoka border. It's right at the foot of Mount Fuji, so you get amazing views of the mountain and can easily explore the beautiful nature around the area. To reach Lake Kawaguchi, you can take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station to Otsuki Station, then switch to the Fujikyu Railway to get to Kawaguchiko Station. Another option is to take a bus from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal, which takes just under 2 hours.

The best time to see Mount Fuji from Lake Kawaguchi is from November to February. During these months, the air is clearer, so you often have an unobstructed view of the famous mountain. Keep in mind that even though Kawaguchiko is right at the base of Mount Fuji, clouds can still block the view. The best times to catch a clear sight of the mountain are early in the morning (usually before 9 am) or in the late afternoon.
