Because it was lunch, and the actual price per person was over 500 RMB (not including the Klook booking fee), the ingredients used in the dishes were average (for example, the bowl dish used duck meatballs). What I liked most about this visit was the young woman who served us; she was lively, cheerful, and a little shy. When you didn't understand something, she would actively use a translation app on her phone to look it up and explain. Her hands were red from too much exposure to cold water, but she maintained perfect posture and etiquette in front of guests throughout. Honestly, you rarely see such a lovely young woman on the mainland. I'd come again just for her! For tourists eating kaiseki, I still recommend going at lunchtime. Firstly, dinner will be much more expensive, and you might encounter noisy guests who have had too much to drink. Secondly, eating too much at night can lead to indigestion. Thirdly, at night, it's dark and you can't see the garden scenery clearly. Behind the teahouse is the Kamo River, and the gurgling water is very pleasant. After the meal, the proprietress waited at the porch, and after seeing us to the door, she waited in the cold wind until we got on the bus, bowing to bid us farewell. This dedication to every table of guests is truly a microcosm of why Japanese kaiseki is worth experiencing.
We took a car to Kyoto [Kawaramachi Station] early in the morning, then a half-hour bus ride to [Heihachi-mae Station] to visit Yamabana Heihachi Chaya. This venerable restaurant, founded in the Tensho era, boasts a 440-year history and serves traditional kaiseki cuisine. Its 600-tsubo Japanese garden is charmingly antique. Our dining area was a private room with its own restroom, spacious and serene, featuring a terrace with a lovely river view. Including dessert, we were served nine courses in total. The dishes were not only exquisite but also delicious. It's worth mentioning that after the meal, the proprietress, dressed in a kimono, came in to thank us for our patronage, bowing repeatedly, which left me a little flustered. I booked through Klook, and the kaiseki lunch cost HKD 540 (about JPY 10,000). However, dining in such a place, the price was very reasonable, even excellent value for money.
Enjoy Kaiseki cuisine in a Japanese detached house full of historical charm. The overall service attitude is enthusiastic, the food flavor is excellent, and the experience is very unique. Although the location is a bit remote, this place is really worth experiencing. For transportation, just follow Google Maps' instructions to take the bus; if possible, driving would be better, as there is a parking lot nearby.
This restaurant is 440 years old. The dining environment and garden are antique and historic, making it well worth a visit. The unagi donburi features a whole eel on rice, and its flavor is rich and delicious. The staff's service was truly polite and friendly, leaving us with unforgettable memories!
My family and I really enjoyed our experience at Yamabana. Everyone from the servers to the host were extremely kind, thoughtful and made our experience enjoyable. The view of the Kamogawa river was very relaxing. We ordered the Unagi, Tempura, and Imperial lunch menu set. Everything was delicious. Their tofu puff dessert was tasty too.
Beautiful environment, excellent service, located on the essential route from Kiyomizu-dera Temple to Sanzen-in Temple. The classic kaiseki cuisine allowed us to experience the charm of traditional Japanese cooking.
The owner arranged the room with the best view for us, with a picturesque river right outside the window. The dishes were exquisite, and the service was excellent.
Dining in an old house over 400 years old, full of surprises and感動, facing beautiful scenery and delicious food that looks like a painting.
The elegant ambiance, beautiful scenery, and attentive service from the hostess at this high-end Japanese restaurant were exceptional. The dishes were visually appealing and delicious. It was particularly rare and appreciated that they offered a private room with an independent restroom (with a bidet) even though I was dining alone. On the day of my visit, I arrived an hour and a half early, feeling tired. The server promptly took my luggage to the room, offered hot tea, and suggested I could wait there. However, I didn't want to miss the beautiful garden view outside. After the meal, I was escorted to the entrance, and we waved goodbye across the road as I boarded the Route 41 bus.
