松籟庵 (Shoraian) Culinária Kaiseki de Kyoto - Arashiyama, Kyoto

The restaurant has a tranquil environment and the meals are delicious. All waitresses are very professional and kind. The tofu cuisine is one of the best we experienced in Japan. Overall, thumbs-up for this lunch experience and we highly recommend it!

Located in the park, it's very convenient to visit after taking the scenic train. You can directly see the Hozugawa River from inside, and enjoy a feast for both taste and sight with the special tofu dishes and artistic pairings!

Restaurant Ambiance: The ambiance of the restaurant is traditional Japanese in style. It is a perfect occasion to wear a kimono to enjoy your kaiseki there. However, I highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes, such as sandals rather than clogs, for the rugged path to the restaurant. Taste: Since the kaiseki focuses on a tofu theme, the cuisine is expected to be a bland diet. Despite this, the cold sliced tofu is my favourite. This is because the chef first makes the tofu firmer than usual, then slices it into thin pieces to enhance its texture, resembling shaved ice. With a drop of soy sauce, the tofu becomes highly palatable.

I originally thought I'd finish my meal in half an hour, but the exquisite tofu dishes kept me there for an hour and a half. The environment was elegant, and I felt a bit bad occupying a large table all by myself.
