Absolutely fantastic! Very well managed from beginning to end. Started with shuttle pickup from your hotel, then when we got there, we were welcomed with a very unique opening ceremony on a boat! This was followed by a hangi dinner (traditional method of cooking underground) which was done well and was very delicious! We were then entertained with cultural dance and performance; both my kids (4 and 10) loved it and sat quietly mesmerized the whole time. We finished with a bushwalk to look at spring water and glowworms. A very well-spent 3 hours. It cost us about AUD $400 for a family of 4 (my 4-year-old was free).
Exactly what we were looking for in a cultural experience. We enjoyed every part of what the family shared with us, and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this experience and definitely learned so much about the history and cultural aspects of the Maori people.
The Mitai Maori Cultural Experience is truly a gem for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Maori culture. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles that set the tone for a heartfelt evening. One of the highlights of the evening was the love story performance, which touched my heart in ways I hadn't anticipated. The performers brought the story to life with such grace and passion by singing, and I found myself teary-eyed, feeling the deep emotions and connections. The dinner buffet that followed was a delightful feast featuring a variety of traditional Maori dishes. Each plate was filled with flavors that told a story of their own, from the succulent meats to the vibrant vegetables, all prepared with care and respect for the land. The communal dining atmosphere fostered a sense of togetherness, allowing us to share not just food but also experiences and laughter with fellow guests. Overall, the Mitai Maori Cultural Experience was a perfect blend of storytelling, culture, and culinary delight. I left feeling enriched and inspired, with a newfound appreciation for Maori traditions. Whether you’re traveling with family or friends, this experience is a wonderful opportunity to learn and connect with a culture that is both beautiful and profound. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable evening in Rotorua.
I had a reservation and was debating whether to cancel, but I ended up going and had a great time. I chose the pickup option, and the pickup location was confirmed via email the day before, so make sure to check your email. My English isn't great, and I went alone, so it was a bit awkward during dinner... There were hardly any Asians, and I was the only Korean. Still, if your English listening skills are average, you can understand more than half of the show's explanations. The food was decent, and the performance was truly wonderful. I didn't do the bushwalking because I was taking the pickup bus, but it seems like you're given some time to do it if you want (you'd need to confirm this with the bus driver).
This was an absolutely incredible evening! An excellent show put on by the people, and the food was absolutely delicious as well! A must-do experience if in NZ.
