Fantastic 5.0
The experience was fun for the whole family. It wasn't too difficult to shave the wood, even for my 8 yr old. We chose Sugi, Walnut, Sakura, and Purple Heart. Victor K. was very helpful, professional, and patient. He provided clear instructions and helpful hints to make the beautiful chopsticks. You can tell he truly enjoys the craft of making chopsticks. The personalized engraving was a fun extra we all loved.

Kyoto chopsticks making workshop is a great group activity to do when your feet have had enough of walking the endless stairs in kyoto. a very doable and satisfying process, that results in a very cool personally made souvenir. location is easy to find, central and there is an elevator to the third floor of the building. The workshop space is well set up and clean. The staff were attentive and very helpful and super friendly. Highly recommend this experience and going earlier in the morning than later on when its busier

We loved the class!! It was a lot of fun, our teacher Cerise was super nice, guided us, and told us the beautiful story of kintsugi. The activity includes a small white plate, but you can buy others if you prefer. The place is easy to find, pleasant, and they sell very nice kintsugi jewelry. I highly recommend it!!!

It was a unique experience that I thoroughly enjoyed, from getting fitted in the kimono and having my hair styled, to the incredible tea ceremony where everything was explained, and even being able to wear the kimono to walk around the city. Highly recommended.

we were able to find this shop fairly easily with an A-frame sign at the entrance. The area is a shared space with a few other craft workshops as well. There’s a restroom you can use once you are up the stairs. Elvie was our instructor. She gave very good instructions and demonstrations as well as helped with some finishing touches to our chopsticks. They have several types of wood you can upgrade to ranging from 4000 to 8000 yen. There are 3 types that we got to choose from that were already included with the price. I chose the Taiwan Cypress and my brother chose Hinoki. We opted for the optional laser engraving for an additional 1000 yen and it was well worth it! Such a great experience! a lovely souvenir to take back home. I will for sure be using them!

Very fun experience! Small plates are included in the price, though you can purchase larger plates or bowls of you want too. The team spoke very good English. We bought our tickets from Klook which was simple, I would recommend using what3words to find the location though as this is easier to find this way ///debt.promises.pinch

Ash and Wil guided us perfectly through this knife-making workshop. They demonstrated great knowledge of the technique and were attentive at every step to ensure our knives turned out perfectly. It was a wonderful activity and a lasting memory; now, every day when we cook, Japan will be in our thoughts.

Need a kitchen knife? Make your own. This is it! As a family of 5, it was well worth it to learn an aspect of culture and have your kids participate. This business in particular, is tailored to your group so there is no large corporate awkwardness. As a small business they are able assist you one on one, as necessary. Learn to make a knife: heating, pounding to shape, grinding and sharpening; all in one. I'm from the US and have toured a lot if places.....this one is fun, enjoyable, and most everyone can get something out of this experience.

What to know before visiting Kyoto

What Kyoto is best known for

Kyoto’s busiest bookings are led by Tours, followed by Cultural experiences and Museums, reflecting a travel year that swells in spring. Klook booking data shows demand peaks in April around cherry blossom season while August is noticeably quieter. Visitors book cultural tours, hands-on cultural experiences and museum visits most often, and observation decks plus zoos & aquariums appear among smaller-but-steady choices. For travelers deciding when to visit, the key trade-off is atmosphere versus crowd size: choose between peak-season spectacle and quieter months for more relaxed sightseeing — this guidance is based on Klook booking data.

Best months to visit Kyoto

Demand on Klook climbs to a clear high in April and stays elevated through May and June, while August registers the lowest demand of the year. Prices over the past 12 months drifted down after a late-summer high in September and hit their annual low in June, so busy months and high prices don’t always match: April is the busiest but not the priciest; September is the priciest while being quieter than peak spring. For lower prices and smaller crowds, aim for June or the quieter shoulder months; for peak-season atmosphere, plan April.

Month Demand Level Typical Price
January Quieter than usual USD 50
February Quieter than usual USD 49
March Quieter than usual USD 52
April Peak demand USD 47
May Peak demand USD 46
June Peak demand USD 45
July Busier than usual USD 62
August Very quiet USD 66
September Quieter than usual USD 80
October Quieter than usual USD 48
November About average USD 47
December About average USD 49

Demand is bookings in that month compared with a typical month, from historical Klook booking data, grouped into the demand levels above; typical price is the median paid on Klook in that month; prices are shown with their currency code. Based on Klook booking data, July 2025 – June 2026.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Klook booking data shows a clear split in typical nightly rates across districts: Sakyo is the most affordable, typically around USD 81 per night, while Ukyo sits at the top end, typically around USD 298 per night — a gap of roughly 73% between them. The lower-priced end tends to suit travellers prioritizing budget and relaxed spending on experiences, whereas the pricier districts suit those who prefer higher-end hotels and a more luxurious stay. Use these typical nightly rates on Klook to pick the district that matches your comfort level and trip priorities.

Tips for travelers from the United States

Most travelers from the United States lock key experiences in about 7 days ahead, while the earliest planners book around 26 days out, according to Klook booking data. That makes Kyoto fairly bookable at short notice, but during April’s peak you’ll benefit from planning and booking earlier. If you value flexibility, many options can still be reserved a day or two before travel; if you want peace of mind in busy months, secure popular tours and cultural experiences a few weeks earlier. Book on Klook to compare typical prices and available slots and to capture options that suit your schedule and budget.
