Amazing day out of the city. Great itinerary - we saw so much without feeling rushed and with having our own time to explore! Jack gave great commentary about Kyoto and Nara. We had a 9yo and an 18yo and they both enjoyed the day, regardless of their age difference. Bamboo Grove and Kimono Forrest were favourites. Great day trip out of Osaka.

Very fun and informative trip with our guide Natsuki- she was super knowledgeable and helpful. We really enjoyed all three locations, and Natsuki was able to provide lots of interesting context for the temples and pathways. She also suggested a second tour to us which we took and really enjoyed. Strongly recommend this tour!

Traveling with a 6-year-old, taking the Kyoto-Nara 1-day tour made everything so convenient. We didn't have to worry about transportation or getting lost, and we could even rest and sleep on the bus along the way. Our local guide was Mr. Shine, a young guide who gave great recommendations for travel and sights. He was extremely punctual, friendly, polite, and conversational, and even recommended great restaurants both on and off the tour. We were very impressed.

Last time, I visited Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, so this time I went to places I hadn't seen before. It was just before a long holiday, so there weren't many people, and it was wonderfully peaceful and quiet! When you actually see it, it's not so much 'Wow, that's amazing!' but rather beautiful scenery, the path you walk while admiring that scenery, various photos taken at photo spots, and an unexpected seagull zoo feeding (making eye contact with seagulls and hawks). I didn't have high expectations, but it was fun! The only downside is that the travel time is a bit long if you depart from Osaka! However, our guide, MICA, explained many things about Japan so well and took such beautiful photos that I even changed my KakaoTalk profile picture for the first time in a while! 😄

Our tour guide, Mr. Hu, was very thorough and detailed, explaining each itinerary clearly. His historical explanations during the tour were very interesting, and he also gave us appropriate time to rest. This tour was well worth it and a lot of fun.

Our tour guide, who could switch between Chinese, Japanese, and English, and also spoke Korean, made sure every group member was taken care of. It was a huge benefit not having to research the history and stories of each attraction ourselves. They offered pre-ordered lunch, which allowed us more time to explore Kiyomizu-dera Temple and its surroundings, and the food was quite good. The itinerary was well-paced for the limited time (however, this tour is not suitable for travelers who prefer to savor sights slowly or spend a lot of time taking photos, as the time allotted for Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine doesn't allow for walking the entire Senbon Torii path!). The tour bus was clean and tidy, and the ride was smooth and steady. I'm prone to motion sickness and usually sleep on buses, and I didn't wake up due to poor driving.

What to know about Fushimi Inari Taisha
Welcome to Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of the most popular shrines in Kyoto and a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Japan. Located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, this historic site is dedicated to Inari Okami, the Shinto deity of rice, agriculture, and business prosperity.
The shrine is world-famous for its thousand torii gates (Senbon Torii), which create winding pathways up Mount Inari. From ancient times, worshippers have come here to pray for good fortune and prosperity, making it one of the most visited shrines throughout Japan.

Fushimi Inari Taisha: Must-Visit Attractions
The Giant Torii Gate and Main Shrine
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the giant torii gate that marks the entrance. Passing through the Romon Gate, you'll reach the main hall, where visitors pay respects and make offerings to Inari.
The Thousand Torii Gates (Senbon Torii)
The highlight of any visit is walking through the thousand torii gates, each donated by individuals and businesses. Prices for sponsorship range from hundreds of thousands of yen to over a million, depending on gate size.
Yotsutsuji Intersection and Scenic Views
About 30-45 minutes into the climb, you'll reach the Yotsutsuji intersection, offering sweeping views of Kyoto. From here, you can continue to the summit or turn back. The full trail covers around 3.5 km and takes 2--3 hours to complete.
Shin-Ike Pond and Omokaru Ishi
On the trail, you'll come across Shin-Ike Pond and the famous Omokaru Ishi, or "heavy-light stone." Tradition says that if you lift the stone and it feels lighter than expected, your wish will come true, bringing good fortune.
Fox Statues and Inari Cuisine
Scattered across the shrine are fox statues, often holding symbolic items such as keys or scrolls. Along the pathways, stalls sell the signature dish of inari sushi (rice wrapped in aburaage) and kitsune udon, a noodle soup topped with sweet tofu.
Fushimi Inari Shrine History
Founded in 711, Fushimi Inari Shrine predates the establishment of Kyoto as Japan's capital. It held strong ties to the imperial court and later the imperial palace, and today, its main shrine (honden) is designated a national treasure.
Dedicated to Inari Okami, the shrine is also guarded by distinctive fox statues, believed to be messengers of the deity. Pilgrims and visitors leave offerings at both the main gate (Romon Gate) and numerous small shrines found across the whole mountain.
How to Access Fushimi Inari Taisha
From Kyoto Station: Take the JR Nara Line to Inari Station. The shrine entrance is directly opposite the station.
From Gion Shijo Station: Take the Keihan Line to Fushimi Inari Station (about 7 minutes on foot to the main gate).
