The easiest route is the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Karuizawa Station, which takes about one hour depending on the service. Highway buses from Tokyo also serve Karuizawa, while drivers can use Joshinetsu Expressway access for broader travel around Nagano and Gunma.

In Karuizawa, bicycles, taxis, local buses, and walking cover many major sights near the station and Kyu-Karuizawa. A rental car is helpful for Shiraito Falls, Onioshidashi Park, Mount Asama viewpoints, Miyota, Komoro, and multi-stop countryside routes.

Karuizawa Station is best for first-time visitors, shopping, Shinkansen access, and short stays. Kyu-Karuizawa has a classic villa-town atmosphere, cafes, churches, and boutique inns. Naka-Karuizawa and the Hoshino Area suit travelers who want forest hotels, hot springs, and restaurants, while Miyota and Komoro are quieter options for car-based trips around Mount Asama.
