Fantastic 5.0
Rating this maybe 4.5/5. Location is 650meters from Takayama sta. No building also in front of their hotel so the view was good. Staff was accommodating. Smooth check-in. Room was spacious enough, with table and chair. Free water, reading area, and complete amenities in the lobby.

Fantastic 5.0
The apartment hotel room has a washer-dryer combo, a kitchen for cooking, and a bathtub. You can also get free hot spring tickets at the front desk to use at a hotel that's a 13-minute walk away. The only downside is that the dryer isn't very effective; clothes were still a bit damp after six hours of drying.

Fantastic 5.0
I've stayed here many times. It's always clean. This time I got a slightly older room, but it was still good. Breakfast is included, and there's ramen available late at night. You can use the private onsen without a reservation; if the sign is available, you can enter right away. Just flip the sign on the door to 'occupied' when you're using it, and then flip it back to 'available' after you're done.

Fantastic 5.0
Good location with many restaurants and eateries nearby. It is also an easy walk to the central tourist area. The hotel is located three to five minutes from the Takayama JR Station and bus station, so it is convenient for you to get around. The staff is friendly, the room is clean, and breakfast variety is fantastic! They also offer daily supper, either sweet or savory, for the guests. There is also onsen (public bath) in the hotel.

Fantastic 5.0
Location was superb, being right next to the train station, which was why I booked it. The public foot bath on the top floor was also very welcome, especially as I had just come in from Kamikochi. 6 mins walk away is Cafe Rin-Rin, a mom and pop cafe that felt like you were stepping back in time, and served delicious french toast. The room was comfortable and good-sized for a solo traveller, and the washing machine was a godsend. The only thing that was very annoying was the lamp sitting over the small table, as I kept hitting my head on it. It was at a very inconvenient spot and height.

Fantastic 5.0
The hotel is very good. The room is spacious with a private onsen and separate air conditioning. Parking costs a small fee. There's a welcome drink of beer or orange juice. Breakfast is good and standard. It's quite far from the train station and the city, but it's peaceful.

What to know before visiting Takayama

Quick snapshot of Takayama and what to expect

Takayama is a compact cultural city known for guided Tours, Cable cars and Hands-on cultural experiences, with bookings peaking in winter and dipping in late summer. Demand data shows a strong spike in January and much lower interest around August, so the rhythm of the year swings between busy winter months and a quiet late-summer trough.

When to visit for crowds and prices

According to Klook booking data, the busiest month is January while the quietest month is August. Prices drift up and down through the year: Klook data indicates April is typically the cheapest month for activities, while June tends to be the priciest. If you want lower prices and smaller crowds, plan for April or the late-summer trough in August; if you prefer peak-season atmosphere and more tour options, aim for January when demand is highest. Note that price and demand don’t move in perfect lockstep here — the priciest month (June) does not coincide with the busiest month (January), so check both calendar and prices when choosing dates.

Tips for travellers

Most visitors book roughly a week ahead on average, with many last-minute options available about a day before. For travel during the busiest months named above, consider booking activities earlier—around the typical lead time—to secure the tours and cable-car experiences you want. Klook listings often show a wide range of options, so use the platform to compare offerings and lock in plans with confidence.
