Fantastic 5.0
Great and comfortable trip overall. Coordination was done a day before the trip, and the pick-up from our Old Quarter hotel and drop-off directly at our Sapa hotel was super convenient, no stress at all. The ride was smooth with 2–3 bus stops along the way for food and bathroom breaks. I really appreciated the built-in massager, plus the pillow and linens smelled great, which made the 6-7 hrs journey more relaxing. Tip: choose the lower cabin for a more comfortable and steady ride. Highly recommended for traveling between Hanoi and Sapa.

Smooth transfer from Sapa to Hanoi. It’s a really long drive, but everything was made comfortable and convenient through this service. It’s door-to-door—from your accommodation in Sapa straight to your accommodation in Hanoi—just make sure you provide the correct address ^^ Shoutout to Mr. Lâm Quỳnh, who was very kind and drove us safely to Hanoi. I would definitely recommend this over the sleeper bus or sleeper train, especially if you get motion sickness like I do.

We messaged their customer service, and they were responsive and spoke English well. They picked us up from our hotel via shuttle service and dropped us off at the G8 Bus Office for free. The staff at the ticketing office were polite and spoke English well. We boarded the bus and departed from Sapa on time – lol! The bus provided sleepers, a plastic bag for shoes, free tissues, a water bottle, air conditioning, a blanket, and two pillows. However, the USB charging port in my cabin was not working. The driver drove carefully, and we didn’t experience any sharp turns. That said, they no longer dropped us off at our hotel.

CSO will Whatsapp you the details day before. We went to the meeting place (Tom's Cafe) at 6.10am. There are seats available beside the cafe. The bus arrived at 6.15am. I requested a lower bunk for my wife whose knee is bad (also elderly), which the CSO arranged for both of us, which was really great. Bus left at 6.40am (supposed to leave at 6.30 departure time), however a couple of guys arrived late. The journey took 6 hours and there were 2 stops, where you can go relieve yourself or get food (toilet is 3000VND per person). Also note that you have to take off your footwear and placed in plastic bag (provided) before boarding. At pit stop it can be a hassle taking off and putting on your shoes. We circumvent this by boarding in slippers. On board, they provide a blanket and a charging port. No pillow, no tv, no massage capabilities, very basic. Service is great and price is right.

Fantastic 5.0
VicSapa is a great choice, with clean rooms and toilets. The van driver picked us up from Sapa and brought us to Lao Cai, which took almost an hour. We then stayed at the VicSapa Lounge for about 2.5 hours. They have a restaurant with good food, as well as bathrooms and shower rooms where you can freshen up before boarding the train. The lounge is conveniently located right in front of the train station. I felt a little dizzy at first on the train, and it can be a bit noisy, but you eventually get used to it. I recommend this if you prefer to lie down while traveling back to Hanoi. Snacks, water, toiletries, clean pillows, and blankets are provided, and they also sell additional snacks during the ride. Just manage your expectations—the beds and cabins are quite small and narrow. Overall, it’s a comfortable and convenient experience.

We booked pickup at 1100. We turned out to be ready at 1000. I WhatsApp the agent asking for a change in schedule. We got a reschedule instantly and save us an hour in waiting. Be prepared for a short walk in Old Quarter if the drop off is on Weekend. My driver had been deligent in finding the way to hotel following Google map but driving in Old Quarter is always a challenge on weekend.

Fantastic 5.0
We had a good experience trying out the Chapa Express from Hanoi to Sapa (Lao Cai station). Redemption of the Klook vouchers were pretty easy; upon arrival at Hanoi train station take the escalator up to the second floor and you'll see the Chapa Express VIP Room where you can check in. The VIP Room is pretty small and it was full so we just sat outside. The staff will call you when it's about time to board the train. The cabins were pretty comfortable and cozy and they provided some bananas, mineral water and some other Vietnamese snacks. The toilet was clean and there is also a separate sink outside. The whole journey took around 8 hours but we couldn't sleep much as it was quite noisy along the tracks even with earplugs. Upon arrival in Lao Cai we took a pre-booked van to Sapa town center which took another 40 minutes. Overall it was quite a good experience but I would rather take the overnight sleeper bus next time.

What to know before visiting Hanoi

Things to Do in Hanoi

Old Quarter

As you walk through Old Quarter, each lane has its own charm! From silk shops and coffee cafés to ancient temples and French colonial buildings. It’s the best place to see how modern Hanoi blends with centuries-old Vietnamese culture.

Hoa Lo Prison

Known as the “Hanoi Hilton,” Hoa Lo Prison Museum tells powerful stories from both the Vietnam war and the French colonial period. You’ll see exhibits, preserved cells, and artifacts that show what life was like for prisoners and revolutionaries.

Temple of Literature

The Temple of Literature is one of Hanoi’s most peaceful and beautiful spots. You'll be able to walk through serene courtyards, ancient stone tablets, and traditional Vietnamese architecture that whisper tales of learning and wisdom.

Hoan Kiem Lake

Right in the heart of Hanoi city, Hoan Kiem Lake is where locals and travelers come to relax, walk, or simply breathe in the city’s energy. Watch the sun rise with morning joggers, or enjoy the glowing red Huc Bridge leading to Ngoc Son Temple at night!

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Ba Dinh Square is one of the most important landmarks in Hanoi, Vietnam. Here, you can pay your respects to Ho Chi Minh’s body, preserved in a grand marble building that reflects national pride.

Tips before visiting Hanoi

1. Learn to Cross the Street Like a Local

Traffic in Hanoi, Vietnam is wild, as scooters are everywhere and horns are blaring like a symphony! The trick? Walk slowly and steadily, and drivers will move around you. It feels scary at first, but once you master it, you’ll feel like a true Hanoi city pro.

2. Bring Cash and Get Ready to Haggle

Many markets and small shops in Hanoi’s Old Quarter prefer cash, so keep some Vietnamese dong handy. Bargaining is part of the fun here, especially at the local markets and night bazaars.

3. Try Every Street Food You Can Find

Hanoi is a street food paradise, bursting with flavors that’ll make your taste buds dance. Don’t miss bun cha, grilled pork, or a creamy cup of egg coffee from the city’s famous street vendors!

4. Dress Smart for Temples and Landmarks

When visiting sacred sites like the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum or the Temple of Literature, dress respectfully; covered shoulders and knees are a must. Light, comfy clothes work best in the humid weather.

5. Stay Central and Explore on Foot

Book your stay near the city center or Hoan Kiem Lake for easy access to top attractions like the Hanoi Opera House and Ba Dinh Square. Most sights are within walking distance, and getting lost in Hanoi’s French Quarter or Silk Street is half the adventure.
