So fun, we were able to see Gala Yuzawa, Atami and Kawazu Sakura, and around Tokyo (Shibuya-Harajuku-Shinjuku). You really have to go to JR Ticketing Stations though to reserve your seats especially for the shinkansen to/from Gala Yuzawa and the local/rapid trains to Atami/Kawazu. It is easier to let the staff reserve the seats rather than using ticket machine.
Super worth for its price! I went to Gala Yuzawa, Mt. Fuji, Yokohama, and Kamakura using this pass. I saved a lot by using this instead of going on a tour. I also saved 3 days local train fares in tokyo area. This is a must have when youre planning a DIY Trip.
The 72-hour JR Pass with an additional 8% discount is truly a great deal. The JR Pass is an electronic voucher, so it's recommended to exchange it for a physical ticket at the airport upon arrival, otherwise, you'll have to go to Tokyo Station to redeem it. This time, I also learned how to use the Pass directly on the machine to reserve desired train times and seats, which was incredibly convenient. For the 72-hour subway pass, I tried using QR codes for entry and exit this time, so I no longer have to worry about losing or damaging a physical ticket. Overall, this experience was excellent.
Whenever I visit prefectures outside of Tokyo, I make sure to check whether the trip is covered by the JR Tokyo Wide Pass. For 15,000 yen for three days, this pass allows me to travel to various places without worrying about paying each time. It also allows me to take Shinkansen trains and get reserved seats to reach my destination faster. I highly recommend using the JR Tokyo Wide Pass and buying it in advance from Klook (super easy to claim from Narita airport). Plan your itinerary well and calculate if the pass is worth it. During this trip, I used it to visit Nikko on a day trip and Karuizawa on an overnight trip, plus used it on JR Lines within Tokyo. It was surely worth more than what I paid for, so it was definitely a good value.
The JR Tokyo Wide Pass was super convenient and worth every yen! It made traveling around Tokyo and nearby areas like Mt. Fuji, Yokohama, and Kamakura so easy and stress-free. Unlimited rides for a few days really saved time and money—highly recommend for anyone exploring beyond Tokyo! 🚄✨
A must-buy for all Tokyo travelers! You can see Mount Fuji, use the Shinkansen to Gala, watch the snow, and ski at Gala Yuzawa. It includes unlimited airport train travel from Narita or Haneda, and access to the Yamanote Line and all JR East trains. It's so worth it. I traveled Japan for four days, and this pass helped me save so much money while visiting almost every tourist destination. Really a must-buy for you guys!
JR Tokyo Wide Pass Review: One Pass, Many Trips Around Tokyo + Nearby Areas – Great Value for Independent Travelers 🚆 Usage: Valid for 3 days. Can be used on JR lines + some Shinkansen lines. No need to buy separate tickets; just show the pass and enter. Extremely convenient. 🗺️ Highlighted Routes: Go to Kawaguchiko Station to see Mount Fuji or to Gala Yuzawa to play in the snow. One pass covers it all. 💸 Value for Money: Just a round trip to Fuji or one ski trip almost pays for itself. The more places you visit, the more immediate savings you get. ⚠️ Things to Know: Seat reservations are required in advance for some trains, and some routes are not covered. 🎯 Summary: Good planning = incredible value. Travel far without overthinking it. 🚄
This 3-day pass is incredibly useful. On the first day, we took the JR Joetsu Shinkansen from Ueno to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, then transferred to the free GALA Yuzawa shuttle bus to enjoy playing in the snow. On the second day, we traveled from Ueno on the JR Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen to Utsunomiya Station, then transferred to the JR Nikko Line to Nikko Station. From there, whether taking a paid shuttle bus to Toshogu Shrine or walking to enjoy the street scenery, there's also the delicious cheesecake from Cheese Garden available for tasting, and monkey-shaped Soppo-yaki, which adds warmth in the cold winter. On the third day, we took the Fuji Excursion from Shinjuku, but since direct tickets were sold out, we had to transfer at Otsuki before taking the Fujikyuko Line to Kawaguchiko. Although it took longer, this Tokyo Wide Pass saved us a lot on transportation costs, offering the best option for visiting Tokyo's suburbs.
