Things to do in Penghu

The meeting time was 20 minutes before departure, scheduled for 7:40 AM, but we actually departed at 8:00 AM because we were waiting for a group of tourists. There was a guide on the boat who stayed with us, for example, we'd agree on a time to follow her for a tour, and the service was pretty good. However, on the return trip, there was no commentary about the islands we cruised past! We had 1.5 hours at Dongji Island and 3 hours at Qimei (including self-arranged lunch), which was plenty of time! It was great—the whole island-hopping day trip wasn't expensive, highly recommended! 👍

When visiting Penghu, a trip to Jibei Island is a must, especially for families with children. The boat ride is only 20 minutes, so you won't get seasick. We chose the 10:30 AM departure and 4:00 PM return. Since this tour only offers fixed times, it felt a bit long for us as we didn't participate in any water activities, but it was still very worthwhile!

This was such a unique experience! Loved it! I would highly recommend this as an activity to do one evening!

Someone on our boat caught two small fish. We thought we wouldn't catch anything, but now we can even add them to our meal! Their sashimi from the small fish is incredibly delicious and sweet, and the rice noodles are also tasty; the captain cooked them perfectly. Plus, there's brown sugar cake for us to enjoy two pieces of when we leave. Watching the fireworks on the boat was beautiful, but it was a bit too quiet. It really needed some music.

Penghu Aquarium is definitely worth a visit; I highly recommend the diver feeding show, it's spectacular. It's perfect for families to take photos and see marine life. As an indoor attraction with air conditioning, you don't have to worry about sun exposure, making it a nice and comfortable outing. The kids loved it and had a great time. It was really cool to even see giant groupers.

On Qimei Island, we chose to take the bus. It was a spacious, air-conditioned coach, which was very comfortable. We had 15-30 minutes at each scenic spot, which was plenty of time to take photos, and the tour was very efficient. The bus driver also acted as a tour guide, providing commentary while driving. Please note that this tour is not designed for foreigners and commentary is only provided in Chinese. As a Japanese speaker with only enough Chinese to understand meeting times, I was still able to participate in the tour without any issues. Seating on the ferry is open, and when traveling between islands, it's first-come, first-served again. Arriving earlier than the designated meeting time allows you to choose your preferred seat.

We had an absolute blast with the water activities and it was completely worth the trip. **High Degree of Freedom on the Island** After renting a scooter, we could leisurely explore Qibei Island, enjoying the white sand beaches, fishing village charm, and seafood snacks at our own pace. The feeling of not being rushed was fantastic. Riding the scooter on the beach at sunset with the breeze was incredibly romantic! Overall, this itinerary offers excellent value for money, including ferry tickets, scooter rental, water activities, and the lighthouse tour. It covers all the main highlights in one go, so you don't have to run around organizing things yourself.
