Fantastic 5.0
From the moment, I was picked up at my hotel accommodation to the trip it was nothing but amazing. The tour driver was very knowledgeable and very ethusiastic during the trip. All of our itinerary and tourist spots were ticked off. I highly recommend to do this Tranzalpine tour from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass. It was my first time in Christchurch and I fell in love with the place. Castle Hill, Otira Viaduct and Devil's Punchbowl Waterfall is a must see + we get to see a Kea bird. I would surely come back next time.

Fantastic 5.0
Had a lovely day out with our guide John, who entertained us the whole way with his tales and humour. Do note that this is the version of the tour without the TranzAlpine railway, and they will combine both tour groups. You can still get on the train with their help, but it’s cheaper to just get the train package tour from the start. John helped to sort us out and the ride was definitely worth it!

Fantastic 5.0
Experience the ultimate Christchurch to Franz Josef journey (Day 1) with this immersive small-group tour via Arthur’s Pass. More than a simple transfer, it’s a masterclass in New Zealand’s rugged beauty. Our guide, Joel, made the trip unforgettable with expert timing and local insight. We dodged crowds at the majestic Devil’s Punchbowl and Lake Ianthe, enjoying every spot in perfect light. With a delightful lunch break in Hokitika, this tour perfectly balances adventure and comfort. Day two from Franz Josef to Queenstown was just as spectacular, thanks to our fantastic guide, Martin. His deep knowledge of the West Coast added so much layers to the stunning scenery. We explored the prehistoric beauty of Ship Creek and marveled at the turquoise waters of the Blue Pools. Martin’s storytelling and seamless pacing made the long drive feel like an adventure. If you're heading south, this is the only way to travel!

What to know before visiting Hokitika

Top experiences through the year in Hokitika

Hokitika's top draws are guided Tours and Outdoor & sports activities, with Tours accounting for the bulk of bookings and Outdoor options filling out the programme. Demand peaks in March and falls right back toward October and December, so the busiest, most in-demand months centre around March while late-year travel is much quieter.

Activities matched to different traveller types

Families will most often pick Tours — they offer the widest range of options and are easy to join as a group. Couples looking for a relaxed, scenic escape can choose either Tours for curated experiences or Outdoor & sports activities for more active days together. Solo travellers and small groups who want budget-friendly, flexible options will find Outdoor & sports activities the easiest entry point.

What travellers from Singapore tend to book ahead

Most travellers from Singapore retain some flexibility: many things can still be arranged a day or two before, but the earliest planners typically book around two months ahead. Booking in advance matters most for the March peak months, when demand is highest and slots on popular Tours fill up sooner.

Comparing categories: price and who they suit

Outdoor & sports activities are the easiest way in on price, typically sitting at the lower end and suiting budget-conscious or active visitors. Tours are the priciest on average and also offer the widest spread of options, covering entry-level guided trips up to more premium experiences — they suit families and travellers seeking convenience or curated itineraries.
