Things to do in Sun Moon Lake

Great experience. Hike or bike the temple (first stop) if you can. The scene there is fantastic. There are lots of food stalls in Ita-Thao. The cable car is fantastic and total roundtrip is about 20-mins. The windows are. open so you can definitely feel the fresh air.

We booked the Sun Moon Lake tour as solo traveler, and our tour guide, Asin, made the experience even more enjoyable. He was very kind, patient, and thoughtful, always making sure that everyone was comfortable throughout the tour. As a solo traveler, I especially appreciated how he kindly took lots of photos for me—such a small gesture, but it meant a lot! 📸 He also guided us to one of the temples around Sun Moon Lake and patiently explained the history and stories about the monk. He even gave us some tea eggs to taste, which was a nice little local touch. Thank you, Asin, for taking such good care of us and making the tour comfortable, informative, and memorable. We truly enjoyed the experience, and thankfully, the weather cooperated too! ☀️😊

had a wonderful time without having to think so much. this tour made my travel a lot more convenient. shared a chinese meal with strangers. the tour guide, Dunken, is also funny and very attentive. overall, it’s a great taichung experience

We met our professional and humorous tour guide, Xiao Xin, who drove very steadily and took great care of everyone along the way. He provided information about the attractions, recommended delicious food, and the maqaw sausage was a unique and tasty specialty. Xiao Xin took many beautiful photos for us and even made a short video, which was very thoughtful and heartwarming. We were lucky to have great weather; there was only a brief shower that didn't affect our experience, and the lake tour was refreshing with a cool breeze. The equestrian show at Cingjing Farm was spectacular, showcasing the trust and synergy between humans and horses—truly a testament to years of practice for a minute on stage. It was my first time feeding carrots to the horses, which was a nice way to encourage them. The free-roaming sheep were also very friendly and interactive. The manor's cat, Wang, even came out to greet us, so cute and well-behaved. The entire trip was filled with wonderful memories.

The tour guide is very friendly, he is our driver too. our trip is small group of 8 persons. We enjoyed and liked the scenery.Mr Wilson services is great, he texted us info about the trip. He is punctual at all times.

Ease of locating the meeting point and although there is no tour guide provided on this day tour, it is very self-sufficient. The tour to Sun Moon Lake is enjoyable with lots of food choices. But for those who would like to explore the island by cable car, ferry or the bus, this half day tour may not be enough. The other half day is to visit a chocolate factory, stopover for donuts at a cafe and a visit to Paper Dome.

It was unfortunate that the transfer we booked separately did not drop us where the bike rental is located but it's okay as we still enjoyed the Sun Moon Lake and was able to walk around. Good thing that the ropeway was just a 10-minute walk so we were able to ride it immediately. We're lucky that it was a weekday so there's not much tourists so we got the gondola by ourselves only. The claiming of ropeway was easy, we just went to 3rd floor and showed the qr code and they stamped our hands with glow in the dark stamp for Formosan and we're already set. It was a good 5-10min ropeway ride. At the end of the ropeway from SML, there's few food stalls. Upon entering Formosan, just scan the stamp in your hand and you can ride the gondola again going to the theme park. It was a weekday so we had the place to ourselves and there were no queues. It was unfortunate that it rained the whole day but we still got to ride some of the rides there.
