1. Yushan National Park
Nature enthusiasts must experience the calmness and beauty of Yushan National Park. With 3,000-meter-tall peaks, hiking and trekking adventures await at this Taiwan tourist spot. It’s also home to Jade Mountain, the world’s fourth tallest island mountain which stands at 3,952 meters. You surely won’t run out of trails to explore here.

2. Taroko Gorge
Can’t get enough of Taiwan’s natural wonders? Climb up Taroko Gorge and witness more Taiwan tourist spots that cover almost 100,000 hectares of land. Pay respect at the Eternal Spring Shine, dip your toes in the majestic waters of Shakadang Trail, then head upstream to the Truku tribal village to sample local delicacies at the small market.

3. Sun Moon Lake
Nantou's Sun Moon Lake is one of the most scenic Taiwan tourist spots. It's approximately two hours away from Taipei city and as serene as ever. A park and lush forests surround the lake which can be accessed via a ferry or cable car ride - the latter providing an aerial view. Just nearby is the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village known for its Cherry Blossom and Lavender Festival.

4. Taipei 101
Taipei 101 no longer holds the record for the world’s tallest skyscraper yet remains one of the top Taiwan tourist attractions. Elements of an Asian pagoda and bamboo stalk are used in the architecture which adds to the appeal of the building. Ride the high-speed elevator to the 89th floor where you’ll find an indoor observation deck or brave the heights on the open deck on the 91st floor.

5. Dragon & Tiger Pagodas
Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second-largest city, is a great place to escape from the crowds in Taipei. It’s also a place known for its street art, as well as bold and colorful temples like the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas located at Lotus Lake. Climb up the seven-story structure to get an overlooking view of the lake full of lily pods.

6. Raohe Street Night Market
Locals love night markets for the variety of affordable goods and delectable snacks, but they’re also popular Taiwan tourist spots. While many will point you towards Shilin, the bazaar at Raohe Street is just as good of an option. Haggle with vendors to get a reasonable deal and don’t forget to try out the local fare like the infamous stinky tofu and steamed buns.

7. Longshan Temple
Find your Zen as you explore the ornate temples near the Tamsui River. The Longshan Temple is the most visited Taiwan tourist spot in the area and is nearly 300 years old. Single devotees come here to pray to Yue Lao in hopes of finding their true love soon, while others ask for guidance from the gods by throwing red moon blocks (jiaobei) on the floor.

8. National Palace Museum
Those interested to learn more about Taiwan’s rich history should check out the National Palace Museum. This Taiwan tourist spot houses about 700,000 artifacts and artworks and has an extensive collection of antiquities collected by Chinese emperors from several periods. Since you’re already in the area, you might as well visit the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aboriginals which is just right across.
