Shoushan Zoo was older than I expected. I had read comments and mistakenly thought it had undergone a complete renovation. However, since the admission fee is very low, it's still worth a visit. The zoo isn't very large and mainly consists of a few zones, which are generally within walking distance. Due to outdated facilities, it was difficult to see the animals, especially in the aquatic animal exhibit where the viewing glass was very dirty. Additionally, there were quite a few droppings (monkey feces?) and unpleasant odors on the Skywalk. Furthermore, the animal descriptions in the park were insufficient; only the lions and tigers had names and arrival dates listed, while other animals had no information. The children's farm offered two feeding sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. When we arrived, the morning session was already over, but a staff member proactively asked if we wanted feed for the Boer goats, allowing for close interaction. There weren't many people in the park on a weekday. Throughout the park, there were constant announcements reminding visitors to be careful of wild macaques, and indeed, we saw macaques on the animal trail as we were leaving. Afterward, I looked up information about the zoo and found out that several elderly animals had passed away this year, which was quite a shame that we couldn't see them.
I have to give it 5-stars based on value for your money. Seniors (65+) and primary school kids are free, and adults are less than $2! I paid extra for the little zoo tram as it was crazy hot, hundreds of school kids, and the monkeys are no joke! stole a water bottle right out of a boy’s hand in a big school group (ran off with it)! The best part was the water area, like a splash pad. Although older and rundown, it did the job of cooling us off. There’s 3 areas, with rain water coming from above, and two shallow areas maybe 1-4 inches of water. Animals weren’t too active due to heat/sun. Don’t recommend eating here as not many options, nor good quality.
Shoushan Zoo is so beautiful after the renovation! The flow of the route is well planned, making it comfortable to walk around. The main thing is that you can see many cute animals, especially the capybara area, which is very healing. Buy your tickets online in advance, and it's super convenient to scan the code directly at the entrance, saving you queuing time. It is very suitable for families or friends to come for a walk and take pictures. Highly recommended!
We didn't know at first that there are a lot of macaque at the bus stop. They took our drinks, but didn't harm us. Hehe! We did enjoy our short stay here. Hoping those animals in the zoo were okay.
It must be government subsidized, which is why the tickets are so cheap. But there are many animals to see inside, just like at zoos that cost hundreds of dollars, and you see the same things. It's worth a visit.
Booking through Klook was very easy and convenient. You can go straight to the scanning area for entry, so there’s no need to line up at the ticket booth. However, there weren’t many animals to see, which was a bit disappointing.
Tickets can be bought and used immediately, which is super convenient. Direct electronic payment means you don't need to take out your wallet. Although Shoushan Zoo is relatively small, it's very worth visiting. Although the monkeys are really super aggressive.
This is a great zoo to visit for half a day with kids who love animals. I liked that I could enter directly with the QR code^^
