What to expect
Hakone Shrine & Lake Ashi Water Torii (approx. 60 minutes, free time) Lake Ashi is a volcanic lake formed by volcanic activity about three thousand years ago. It is the largest lake in Kanagawa Prefecture and a popular spot for viewing Mount Fuji in the distance. The red torii gate on the lake is a symbolic landmark of Hakone Shrine. On a clear day, Mount Fuji and the torii are reflected in the lake, creating a picture-postcard view. Hakone Shrine was founded in 757 and has a long history. Minamoto Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu both visited the shrine. It is famous for traffic safety, good luck, and disaster relief, and is a popular shrine in the Kanto region.
Hakone Pirate Ship (Moto-Hakone Port → Togendai Port, approx. 30 minutes, optional) You can choose to take a unique pirate ship to tour Lake Ashi and enjoy Mount Fuji and the water torii from the lake, offering a unique perspective. It is recommended to depart from Moto-Hakone Port for the most classic view. The one-way trip takes about 30 minutes and the reference fare is 1,700 yen. (If you do not take the ship, you will go directly to the cable car station by car)
Hakone Ropeway (Togendai → Owakudani, approx. 30 minutes, included) Take the ropeway to overlook the volcanic terrain and magnificent mountain scenery. When approaching Owakudani, you can see Mount Fuji in the distance, and on the other section, you can admire the panoramic view of Lake Ashi, which is one of the highlights of the trip.
Owakudani (approx. 50 minutes, free time) A volcanic crater formed by a volcanic eruption about four thousand years ago, where geothermal steam permeates, is a representative scenic spot in Hakone. The specialty “black egg” is boiled with hot spring water, and it is said that eating one can prolong life by seven years. (optional)
Lake Yamanaka Swan Beach (approx. 20 minutes) One of the Fuji Five Lakes, often inhabited by swans, where you can capture the beautiful scenery of “Swan + Mount Fuji” in the same frame, which is a popular photo spot.
Oshino Hakkai (approx. 40 minutes) Eight natural spring waters formed by the melting snow of Mount Fuji are as clear as a mirror. It is a nationally designated natural monument of Japan and a popular spot for photographing the reflection of Mount Fuji.
