Reviews
The free audio guide at Fushimi Inari Taisha was a helpful addition to my visit. It provided clear explanations about the history of the shrine, the significance of the torii gates, and the cultural importance of the area. The guide was easy to follow and allowed me to explore at my own pace while learning more about what I was seeing. Since it’s free, it’s definitely worth using to better appreciate the experience, especially if you want more context beyond just taking photos.
We did a private walking tour in Gion, Kyoto, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Naoki(直樹), was not only extremely professional but genuinely passionate about what he does. You can tell immediately that he isn’t just reciting facts — he lives the history and culture he’s sharing. Every explanation felt thoughtful, grounded, and personal. What made this tour special was the timing. Exploring Gion in the evening revealed a completely different, I’d say better, side of the district. As the lights slowly came on and the crowds thinned, the atmosphere shifted. At moments, it truly felt like we had traveled back 1,000 years. Naoki helped us notice details we would have walked past on our own — subtle architectural elements, hidden meanings⋯ Nothing felt rushed, staged, or touristy. If you want more than surface-level sightseeing and are looking for a deeper, more atmospheric experience of Kyoto, this private walking tour is absolutely worth it.
Attractions along the way: There are really a lot of people at the Senbon Torii (Thousand Torii Gates), but it gets better as you climb higher. It's a great place for taking pictures and shopping, and the small boutiques inside are dazzling.
Checked this out but I didn't actually have enough time to listen through. Rating this 5 star because its Free and very helpful!
