Borobudur (Subida + Guiada), Passeio de Jeep Merapi e Tour ao Templo de Prambanan

Borobudur and Prambanan are must-visit destinations, reflecting the Buddhist and Hindu heritage in Yogyakarta. We chose this itinerary because others offered a sunrise option. Our driver, Joko, was very punctual and patient. He took us to Borobudur and stayed with us until the in-house guide took over. The temple tour was well-organized and limited to 150 people per hour. Everyone had to wear special slippers to protect the relics, which could be kept as a souvenir after the tour (a bag was provided for your shoes). At the second stop, we transferred to a jeep and were shown two spots at Mount Merapi; there was an option to see the bunker or Kali Kuning (Yellow River) for the third spot. It was cloudy, so we couldn't see the peak. Our final stop was Prambanan, where we paid for an in-house guide, which helped us understand the complex better. Besides the main complex, do take the paid buggy to Sewu Temple (walking isn't very interesting). I heard that the nearby Ratu Boko Palace is nice for sunset, but the weather wasn't ideal during my visit.

I booked group tours many times, but none of them materialized, so I finally opted for a free-and-easy trip. Fortunately, Klook's one-day tour, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, a full 10 hours, covered 3 attractions (with hotel pick-up and drop-off). It was a great customized tour 👍 We had enough time to stay at the attractions as long as we wanted, just by contacting our driver Yahya via WhatsApp anytime. At Borobudur, a dedicated guide led us through the climb and explanation, which was very informative 👍 The MERAPI Volcano Adventure Tour covered three units: the museum, the lava tour, and river trekking, which was exciting and fun 😁😃 Yahya also recommended a very unique bamboo forest restaurant for lunch 👍👍 The only downside was that when we arrived at Prambanan Temple at 4:00 PM, a heavy downpour made it impossible to move... Overall, we are very satisfied and thank Klook for providing this series. We highly recommend this itinerary to friends who want to visit Yogyakarta, it's truly excellent 👍👍

Strictly speaking, this itinerary offers excellent value for money. However, if you want a more in-depth experience, you'd need to allocate more time for Borobudur and consider adding the optional summit climb, which would make it more meaningful. The volcano tour was good, but it's very weather-dependent. Our volcano was too shy and hidden by clouds, so the volcano trip felt less exhilarating. Nevertheless, the jeep water crossing afterwards was incredibly fun and made up for the disappointment of not seeing the volcano. The subsequent trip to Prambanan was very hot but absolutely beautiful. It's a shame we didn't have enough time to explore it more thoroughly. I highly recommend taking the shuttle bus inside or renting a bicycle if you feel you need more time. It's best to bring a parasol as it's very hot there, and there's not much shade. We chose an English-speaking driver, and he was very experienced. He knew exactly what services we needed and when. At Borobudur, I didn't purchase the summit climb, and he knew we couldn't wear our shoes inside, so he thoughtfully helped us pack our shoes and even waited for us at the exit, accurately predicting our departure time – very impressive! During the jeep water crossing, we couldn't take photos ourselves, so he specially filmed it for us. His service truly deserves a five-star rating. What's even more commendable is that he also found us a very affordable lunch restaurant with great views and excellent service. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our driver's name is Woody, and I give him a six-star rating.

The tour consists of the 2 UNESCO world heritage sites and Mount Merapi as a day tour. It's worth-it for the price as Yogyakarta's attractions are quite scattered. Although I'm Indonesian, I have never been to Yogyakarta yet so decided to head off and see the attractions. I booked this a day before the tour and the process was simple. As soon as I booked the tour, I was contacted by Klook's affiliate in Yogyakarta and we confirmed the itinerary. Our driver, Mas Budi, also contacted and confirmed very promptly. He was extremely punctual and even arrived 30 minutes prior to our arrangements (07:00 AM). He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the roads, cultural, and historical aspects of the land. In addition, he showed us the best culinary gems in Yogyakarta and even drove us to one of the best batik stores I've seen yet. Prambanan Temple Tour: We reached our first destination early in the morning which allowed us to explore the temple with fewer visitors. The ticketing process took less than a minute and we were guided within the grounds. The area itself was quite lovely and picturesque with beautiful temples as its main view. I was recommended by Budi to hire a guide within the temple and I'd highly recommend doing the same. Although the view itself is already well-worth the price, the history and culture behind it is what makes it even more wonderful. Despite the fact that I lack prior knowledge in Hinduism and Buddhism, the guide provided the stories, fun-facts, and history in a way that kept us interested. In addition, within the vicinity, there are other temples that you can visit and with our guide in tow, we rode the buggy (IDR 20,000 per person) to the other temples within the grounds (Sewu Temple, Burbah Temple, and Lumbung Temple). Borobudur Temple: After leaving Prambanan, we had some time to kill before our group could enter Borobudur. Budi led us to a cozy and coffee-centric cafe. The store only sells luwak coffee and I have to say that it's a definite must-try for any caffeine lovers, especially ones who enjoy coffee with less acidity. It's definitely an experience to suck on small candy-like sugar and sip the coffee. Then we headed off to Borobudur. Keep in mind, the basic Klook package only covers the temple yard. While coordinating with the Klook affiliate, we were offered special access tickets (IDR 100,000 per person). Honestly, the special access tickets make the trip more valuable because although you can explore the grounds, you can't climb the stairs without it. Prior to entering the grounds, we were provided slippers to change into to enter the area. Budi was kind and considerate enough to help us with bringing our shoes to the car so we didn't have to hold our footwear while climbing. The climb up the temple was quite fun as our group guide was a very jolly and knowledgeable man. He showed us the walls lined with stories and elaborated it in a way that we could have fun while also learning about the history and religion. The view from above was probably one of the best in this trip. Mount Merapi: After leaving Borobudur, we went to a restaurant recommended by Budi and ate a delectable Javanese meal (self-paid). Then we drove to the stop where we got to hop-on a jeep and go on a tour. I chose the 90 minutes Merapi tour and overall, the experience was very thrilling and the history behind the mountain adds another layer to the trip. The only downside of the tour is that I went when it was cloudy so the mountain wasn't completely visible though it was still worthwhile. Overall, the package itself is well-planned and I had a really pleasant experience in Yogyakarta. I'd like to express special thanks to our driver Budi for making the tour much more enjoyable. He guided us through roads that allowed us to skip traffic jams and led us to places where we wouldn't be able to find ourselves. He never rushed us and allowed us to rest between destinations because of his stable driving. In summary, this Klook tour of Yogyakarta's UNESCO World Heritage sites and Mount Merapi offers excellent value for money. The tour is well-organized, covering key attractions efficiently. Our driver, Budi, significantly enhanced the experience with his knowledge, punctuality, and thoughtfulness. The temples (Prambanan and Borobudur) were breathtaking, and the guides provided insightful information. The Mount Merapi jeep tour added an exciting element to the day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Yogyakarta. It provides a comprehensive overview of the region's cultural and natural highlights in a single day.

We traveled with our guide and driver Adit today! I went on a trip to Borobudur Temple, Mount Merapi by Jeep, and Prambanan Temple. It was so amazing and the views were fantastic. My driver was also very kind and he gave us a good recommendation for lunch. Today was perfect and I am really satisfied with my trip. Today's trip will be a good memory for me! Borobudur temple is a must-visit, as is Prambanan, because it has very unique ancient structures that I am fascinated to see. The Merapi jeep experience is also a good experience for people who really like the outdoors and don't mind the heat of the sun, as the jeep has no cover for shelter. It's nice and exciting to see one of the active volcanoes on Earth up close.

This is my second day using Klook in Yogyakarta. The first day, Jomblang Cave and Timang Beach, were both memorable. This time, we visited typical tourist attractions, as my teenage daughter hadn't been there yet. We had the same driver as on the first day, Mas Bowo. As usual, Mas Bowo picked us up on time, a few minutes before the agreed time. Our first destination was Borobudur. As expected, it was quite humid and hot. Wearing a cap is a must. If you forget to bring your own, there will be many people selling hats or renting umbrellas. Our second destination was Merapi, which took us more than an hour to reach from Borobudur. My daughter and I slept peacefully while Mas Bowo drove us very carefully to the second destination. He made sure to play music that suited my taste. The Merapi trip was a short one, 90 minutes by jeep. The driver was quite helpful and very friendly. He ensured that we got good pictures at every spot. Learning about the catastrophe was truly heartbreaking. I couldn't stay long at Bunker Kali Adem; the story of someone being boiled by the hot cloud really disturbed me. This wasn't my first visit, but the horror stories still haunted me. The last trip was to Prambanan. This one was more relaxing as it was late afternoon, and the sun wasn't as intense. Please ensure you apply sunscreen multiple times since morning, as most of the trip will require you to be in direct contact with the sun for hours, and the sun's heat really stings. Mas Bowo dropped us off at the Train Station instead of our hotel, as we needed to catch a train for our flight at Yogyakarta International Airport. Overall, I really love Klook. Wherever I go, I instantly check Klook for an unforgettable trip. They always offer good packages and good vendors.

Our guide + driver (Nicko) is very friendly and helpful. He conversed well with us and was able to give us various suggestions based on our needs. He also went the extra mile to take many nice photos for us at the temples, and also ensured that we were well taken care of. After knowing that we were looking for bakpia, he did not hesitate to drive us to the place even though it was past his working hours. The tour was well coordinated from upgrade arrangement to full access to Borobudur Temple Peak and pick up arrangement from hotel. Romy was our driver for the day. An experienced driver, communicated well and fluent in English. Romy helped us with the collection of the tickets, sent us off to our attractions and waited for us patiently. Unfortunately, Merapi Peak was behind the clouds during our visit, which couldn't be help. We visited Prambanan Temple near end of day and it was worth it as the view of sunset was incredible with the peaceful vibe in the temple compound. We enjoyed the private tour very much.

Wir sind dankbar, einen Führer gehabt zu haben, der uns geholfen hat, die speziellen Tickets vorzubestellen, um Zugang zur Spitze des Borobodur-Tempels zu erhalten. Der Sonnenuntergang am Prambanan-Tempel war ebenfalls unvergesslich, und wir haben es geschafft, auch 3 weitere Tempel in der Nähe zu besuchen. Bezüglich des Mount Merapi waren wir etwas enttäuscht, da wir erwartet hatten, näher am Vulkan zu sein, anstatt immer Aktivitäten mit dem Vulkan als Kulisse zu machen. Nichtsdestotrotz verstehen wir, dass es Sicherheitsbedenken gibt und sind immer noch sehr dankbar für diese gesamte Erfahrung.
