Fantastic 5.0
Our tour guide, Leo, was incredibly attentive, responsible, and polite. The schedule was perfectly arranged. I especially want to mention that when we couldn't get a Lucky Pierrot burger at the main store, he immediately called other branches to ensure we got to try Hakodate's specialty. The burger was truly delicious, and we're very grateful to Leo! We hope to have him guide us around Hakodate again next time. This tour is highly recommended for anyone exploring Hokkaido without a car!!!

Fantastic 5.0
After completing the order, I realized the voucher stated that a printed copy was required for redemption. However, upon arrival, I was able to show the voucher on my phone to the ticket agent at the ticket booth. They wrote down the number from my phone, and I was able to redeem the tickets. When redeeming the tickets, you still need to wait in line with those purchasing tickets. Even though it was cherry blossom season, we entered two hours before closing, so there were noticeably fewer people, and we didn't have to wait. It's definitely worth going up to see during cherry blossom season; it's absolutely beautiful.

Fantastic 5.0
I'm satisfied with the service, but one minor disappointment is that purchasing tickets on-site is much cheaper. Usually, there's an assumption that advance booking is more affordable, so the significant price difference is a bit of a letdown—it's about 1.5 times more expensive.

What to know before visiting Hakodate

Top experiences to try in Hakodate throughout the year

Hakodate is best known for its observation decks and panoramic city views, followed by a healthy offering of guided tours and a small selection of cultural experiences. Demand peaks in April and then eases through summer, with the quietest months in late summer and early autumn.

What different travellers tend to enjoy here

Families and first-time visitors gravitate toward observation decks — they’re easy to access and give a big payoff for little fuss. Couples often pick guided tours to add local colour and structure to their visit, from scenic drives to themed walks. Solo travellers and small groups can find either quick observation stops for flexible sightseeing or a wider range of tour styles if they want a deeper, more social experience.

What travellers from the United States should book ahead

Most things in Hakodate can be booked a day or two before arrival, since typical planning sits around three days out; still, the earliest planners often secure bookings roughly sixteen days ahead. Booking in advance matters most in April, when demand is at its highest and availability tightens.

How the main categories compare on price and who they suit

Observation decks are the easiest, most budget-friendly way into Hakodate sights and represent the cheapest entry point overall. Tours are the priciest and show the widest range of options and prices, making them the best choice for travellers seeking mid-range to premium, guided experiences. Cultural experiences sit between those extremes in terms of focus rather than price, appealing to visitors wanting a local or heritage angle without the widest price swings.
