    The Wilsons Promontory National Park is great for hikes and camping (Tidal River Campground is a fave among the locals), as well as scenic views all around (especially from the peaks of Mount Bishop or Mount Oberon!).

    • Climb Mount Bishop and/or Mount Oberon for amazing views of the surrounds
    • Do The Big Drift Walk (inland sand dunes)
    • Swim at beaches like Squeaky Beach, Cotters Beach, Whisky Bay and Fairy Cove and check out the various granite rock formations
    • View marine life at Norman Bay, the biggest marine sanctuary in Victoria (go snorkelling or join a boat tour!)

    Can’t decide how to get the best of the sea and the mountains? Do a Wilsons Promontory Hiking Day Tour that will take you on a hike through The Big Drift sand dunes as well as a hike up Mount Oberon for stunning coastal views of Victoria. For a dose of seaside fun, you will also get to go to Squeaky Beach, which gets its name from the squeaking sound you hear when walking on the sand (how cute!).

    Wilsons Prom is also the perfect spot for sublime views, even at night as it is a renowned spot for stargazing due to its little to almost no light pollution. You can view the Aurora Australis, or the Southern Lights, and also see bioluminescence (light given off by tiny organisms living in the sea) too!

    4. Wilsons Promontory to Lakes Entrance

    Drive duration: 3.5 Hours
    Recommended length of stay at Lakes Entrance: 1 night

    Located where the Gippsland Lakes meet the Southern Ocean, Lakes Entrance is a beautiful coastal town with plenty of seaside charm and lots to do. First stop, do the Ninety Mile Beach, which offers pristine stretches of sand and refreshing dips. Since this region is by the sea, it also means that it is famed for seafood, so make sure to have a feast or two while you’re here! 
    The best way to explore Lakes Entrance? Locals recommend going for boat cruises or eco tours down the lake and diving into water activities like snorkelling and surfing or try your hand at fishing!

    Must-Dos in Lakes Entrance:

    • Enjoy a picnic at Lakes Entrance Beach
    • Do the Entrance Walk, which will take you across Cunninghame Arm Footbridge to a beautiful lake as well as along Ninety Mile Beach
    • Have a seafood feast and indulge in delicious fish and chips (Sodafish is a crowd favourite!)
    • Explore the beautiful Gippsland Lakes via a boat cruise
    • If you have the time to go further, there’s also Croajingolong National Park which is filled with more gorgeous bush walks to conquer (Note: 2.5-hour drive away)

    5. Lakes Entrance to Merimbula

    Beach hopping and Whale Watching

    Wanna see something whale-y fantastic? It’s the awesome sight of one of the world’s most magnificent creatures frolicking in the ocean! Come whale migration season (best months are said to be between September to November, you’ll be able to catch these giants off the coasts of Merimbula. For the best chances of catching these creatures, book a boat charter or whale watching tour. Besides whales, you will also get to see dolphins, penguins, seals and more!
    If you’re visiting during the non-migration season, there are still plenty of beaches to explore such as Merimbula Main Beach, Spencer Park Beach, Bar Beach and more - take your pick and set up camp for a picnic and lots of fun under the sun!

    Stop by Bar Rock Lookout for sweeping ocean views and even get a chance to see seals sprawled out and happily sunbathing on nearby rocks, before heading to Australia Rock for that picture perfect ‘gram photo!

    Get to take in the sensational scenic sights and sounds of one of Australia’s most picturesque coastal trails, a 21km ride that will bring you to see seals frolicking at the Australia Rock lookout, and Surf Beach to see the Glasshouse Rocks.

    • Explore Montague Island Nature Reserve (lots of hiking trails and coastline views all around!) Do stop by the historic Montague Island Lighthouse too! And if you are up for adventure, there are plenty of charters that offer swimming and snorkelling tours with the seals

    • Take a day trip to Batemans Bay to snorkel, dive and hike (1-hour drive from Narooma)

    Hike, swim, climb and picnic your way through Booderee National Park in search of secret beaches and coves as you cover the various bushwalking trails. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the Cape St George Lighthouse ruins too (great vantage point for whale watching)!
