Aesthetic New Cafes to Visit in KL

1. CC by Mel

Nestled on a second floor shophouse in Bukit Jalil, CC by Mel is a cosy casual dining cafe that only moved in to the space few months ago. As the brainchild of home-based florist Melanie, the cafe serves a yummy selection of Japanese fusion dishes that incorporate floral concepts, are aesthetically plated, and prettily garnished with edible flowers. From nori tacos to matcha sandos, inventive pastas, and cute desserts, it’s the perfect spot for a catch-up with your girlfriends or a special date!

2. Three Years Old Cafe

Housed in a double-storey 80-year-old building, Three Years Old Cafe is located along a row of old terrace houses in Bukit Bintang with a history dating back to the 1920s. The dreamy new cafe opened its doors in April and quickly became an aesthetic hotspot for a relaxing afternoon over coffee and cakes. 3. Wu Di Cafe

Also located in Bukit Bintang, Wu Di Cafe is another new hotspot for those who have a soft spot for white exteriors and minimalist cafes. Step into this restored heritage building and be greeted by a cosy space filled with custom-designed rattan furniture, brick walls, bare beams, and tons of zen, photogenic corners. The cafe even sports a rooftop outdoor seating area that offers open views of the KL city skyline! The cafe menu consists of local and international cuisine from an Aussie breakfast set to fresh salmon, mala chicken karaage, Japanese oysters, and nasi lemak.

4. Mori Kohi

Surrounded by lush trees and connected to an indoor urban farm located within the same building (it's where they get their supply of freshly harvested greens!), Mori Kohi exudes tranquil vibes despite being nestled smack right in the heart of KL. The new bakery cafe is oh-so-cute, even its cushion covers will make you squeal! Located along Jalan Sepadu close to Old Klang Road, Bui Bui Bakehouse is housed in a cosy white bungalow. Fall in love with its aesthetic interior and Japanese-inspired menu featuring fresh bakes such as fluffy milk toast, melon pan, Hokkaido-style toast, sandos, and more, many which are made using ingredients imported all the way from Japan. Hani Eatery is one of Bangsar's latest hidden gems, housed in a rustic, bright space with ample natural lighting, wide windows, brutalist walls, and cute furniture (we especially love how some of their seats are literally cute camping chairs!). Besides drinks and desserts, the cafe also serves up a selection of Japanese-inspired rice and noodle dishes for those who'd like to grab brunch or lunch. 11. Kopi Jiran, Kajang

Kopi Jiran is a humble home-based cafe tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood in Kajang. While it may not be as glamorous as other cafes in town, we absolutely love how homey and welcoming this garden cafe is! Mary Jane may be a relatively new kid on the Petaling Street block, but you can expect no lesser than quality service and delicious halal-certified food here. 13. Nippori Bistro, PJ

Located in a meticulously decorated space with high ceilings and sophisticated decor, Nippori Bistro exudes an elegant vibe and feels like you're stepping into a British colonial residence. 14. Ruma Puteh, Titiwangsa

Minimalistic, chic, and aesthetic - Ruma Puteh checks all the boxes! Set in a former house that was revamped into a cafe, Ruma Puteh gives off the vibe of a modern art gallery with its aesthetic walkways, curved archways, and impressive architecture. Patrons can choose to dine out in their outdoor garden with seats among trees, or in their air-conditioned indoor dining space with quirky, vibrant decor. The cafe serves up a selection of Western cuisine and Malaysian comfort food from pasta dishes to laksa, nasi kerabu, and toast.

15. W Cafe And Dining, PJ

Located in PJ, W Cafe And Dining claims to be a Japanese Malaysian Modernism Cafe. While we're not even sure what that means exactly, the newly-opened cafe has definitely captured our hearts with their cosy, minimalistic vibe that will make you feel as if you're walking into a Muji store! Pop by for a casual brunch of fusion food such as miso butter aglio olio, focaccia sandwiches, Japanese chilli pasta, or a pizza topped with delicious Japanese mushrooms. The cafe also takes their drinks seriously, and you'll be spoilt for choice with hand-crafted beverages such as matcha red bean latte and bottled cold brew.

16. Delifrance, Publika

After its nationwide store closures back in 2016, good old Delifrance has finally made a comeback. The bakery and cafe we were once familiar with is back with a chic, fresh, and modern look, and delicious croissants that taste just as good as we remember them to be. Their new flagship store is located in Publika and is a perfect spot for you to hang out, people-watch, and sip on coffee as if you're on the streets of Paris (no harm trying to fuel our wanderlust, right?). Besides ala carte items, they also offer combo meals perfect for breakfast, lunch or a teatime snack.

17. Burrow BSC

Located in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Burrow serves up freshly-baked desserts from delicious cakes to cookies and their signature maple pecan canelés that are infused with organic maple syrup and Madagascar vanilla bean then topped with butter toasted pecan and cream! Besides sweet treats, Burrow also takes their coffee seriously. The cafe is currently only open for takeaways but we can't wait to check out their refreshing space and have some coffee at one of their window seats once things get better.

18. Fine Coffee And Flowers

Tucked away in the Little Korea neighbourhood in Ampang, Fine Coffee And Flowers is a cosy new Korean-themed cafe cum florist that opened its doors in December 2020. With minimalistic furniture and a serene ambiance, the cafe has a small but lovely menu with a selection of main courses (Big Breakfast, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Smoked Salmon Toast, and more) and desserts like Black Sesame Pudding, Baked Cheesecake, and Houjicha Roll. They also have a dreamy selection of drinks from strawberry latte to earl grey tea!

19. Yewyew, Jalan Sultan

Nestled in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Yew Yew is a cosy little cafe specializing in freshly-brewed coffee, delectable cakes, and pastries. This quaint nook blends perfectly with the charming historical shophouses of Jalan Sultan and offers street views from their window seats. Some popular items here include their large chocolate chip cookies, scones, and matcha drinks made with Niko Neko Matcha powder! Do note though that the cafe is really small, so make sure you plan your visit during off-peak hours if you're looking to dine in and enjoy some downtime by the window.

20. Jeda Cafe And Diner, TTDI

Jeda opened its doors late last year, but it's still a fairly new cafe and underrated gem that we figured deserves a spot on this piece. Managed by a husband-and-wife team, Jeda Cafe And Diner's menu consists of hearty Indonesian dishes that will tingle your tastebuds. Tuck into delicious chicken fillet topped with Balinese sambal and fragrant rice topped with shredded kaffir lime leaves and crispy shallots - the food here is humble yet so good you'll definitely be back once your cravings kick in. While Bali continues to remain a far-fetched dream for now, this may be the closest you can get to reminisce the Balinese breeze.

21. Half & Hāfu, PJ

Decked with neon lights, a mysterious vibe, and an artistic atmosphere, Half & Hāfu is both a hair salon and a cafe - a unique space split into half. This cafe is our new favourite space in PJ for some me-time with coffee and cakes. The cafe serves up a selection of delectable desserts and unique drinks, including a signature concoction which is to be consumed with a special way of drinking that will only be made known to you by the barista. Cakes-wise, you'll be spoilt for choice with their selection of delicious flavours from matcha chocolate cake to fluffy lavender orange chiffon cake and black sesame matcha rolls.

22. Aki's Kohi, Cheras

Aki's Kohi is another new gem in Cheras - a cosy Japanese-inspired cafe that will welcome you with the fragrant aroma of coffee beans the moment you step in. Decked with warm wooden furniture and white minimalistic decor, the cafe exudes a calming vibe great for quiet mornings or lazy afternoons. While the food options at Aki's Kohi are slightly limited, they have a long beverage list including delicious rose latte, dirty matcha, dark chocolate latte, hojicha, Irish coffee, and more!

23. Kaffe 16, KL

Up your Instagram (and coffee) game at Kaffe 16, a charming space with minimalistic yet alluring aesthetics. The cosy cafe is drenched in ample natural sunlight and great for enjoying a nice cup of specialty coffee in a comfortable space. Other items on the menu include desserts, pastries, and hot mains such as delicious pastas and comfort food like Japanese katsu chicken curry rice (our personal favourite). Place your order and take some time to explore the pretty space, especially if you'd like to take some photos for the 'gram!

24. Wú Coffee Gallery, Kota Damansara

Expect no clutter and zero knick-knacks in this space, as opposed to other more elaborately-decorated cafes on this list, Wú is stark, gritty, and raw - full of grey concrete and exposed brick walls. Wú Coffee Gallery currently serves a simple selection of beverages, desserts, and mains, and will be expanding its menu once the pandemic chaos is over. Patrons who have visited the place have been raving about their spicy ramen, though!

25. Hide and Seek, Petaling Jaya

Petaling Street's popular Hide and Seek finally has its own storefront! Located in Taman Paramount, the cafe gives off major industrial vibes, plastered mostly in cement to give off a raw, unfinished look. Place your order and grab a seat of your choice from their quirky arrangement of chairs in different colours and designs. Besides coffee and cakes, they also serve main dishes like braised pork rice, Japanese-style barbecued pork rice, fried chicken, and more. We heard the braised pork rice is to-die-for, let us know if it's that's good if you give it a try!

26. Vernakular Store, Bangsar

Vernakular is more than just a cafe - this unique space located along Jalan Telawi in Bangsar is actually a concept store and experiential retail space, with an area dedicated to a wide collection of well-crafted watches! If you love both coffee and watches, this space is for you. The interior of the store gives off a rustic, cosy feel, with wooden furniture, rattan chairs, and a ground covered in stone. Try to get the seat by the window if it's not too crowded!

27. Lunar, Tropicana Gardens Mall

Hidden inside BookXcess in Tropicana Gardens Mall, Lunar is a minimalistic cafe built for those who wish to enjoy a good cuppa with their new book. The folks behind Lunar decided to create an urban oasis for the weary within the bookstore to become a place for poeple to connect with each other over good coffee and reading. Grab a cup of coffee and get seated at one of their charming white tables - if you're a fan of calming environments and books, a visit here would complete your perfect weekend afternoon!

28. Plan B, TRX

Most people are familiar with Plan B, but did you know there's a glasshouse Plan B cafe located close to the newly-built Tun Razak Exchange building? This dreamy space opened its doors in October 2020 right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, offering amazing views of the Exchange 106 Tower from its clear glass walls. The view is absolutely stunning when the tower lights up at night, but is equally as cosy in the day when drenched in ample natural sunlight.
