You’ve probably got your calendar open already, hunting for the Fridays that could turn into a trip. 2027 is kind to anyone planning a getaway from Singapore. Ministry of Manpower Singapore (also known as MOM) has confirmed all 11 gazetted holidays, and they bring five long weekends and one very good stretch in May.
This guide walks you through the full list of Singapore public holidays 2027, then pairs each long weekend with a short trip idea. You’ll also find the leave hack that turns three days of leave into nine, plus school dates for parents and tips for dodging the Causeway queues.
Singapore public holidays 2027: the full MOM list
Here’s the 2027 public holiday calendar Singapore employees can pencil in right now, straight from MOM.
Public holiday | Date | Day |
|---|---|---|
New Year’s Day | 1 January | Friday |
Chinese New Year (Day 1) | 6 February | Saturday |
Chinese New Year (Day 2) | 7 February | Sunday |
Hari Raya Puasa | 10 March | Wednesday |
Good Friday | 26 March | Friday |
Labour Day | 1 May | Saturday |
Hari Raya Haji | 17 May | Monday |
Vesak Day | 20 May | Thursday |
National Day | 9 August | Monday |
Deepavali | 28 October | Thursday |
Christmas Day | 25 December | Saturday |
Good to know: Chinese New Year 2027 Singapore falls on 6 and 7 February. Because the second day lands on a Sunday, Monday, 8 February, will also be observed as a public holiday. Labour Day (1 May) and Christmas Day (25 December) both fall on Saturdays, so neither comes with an automatic Monday off.
Four of these holidays land on a Friday or Monday, so they make three-day weekends without any leave. Two land on a Thursday and one on a Wednesday, which is where leave planning gets fun. Labour Day and Christmas are Saturdays, so you’ll get a day off in lieu or extra pay, depending on your employer.
2027 long weekends in Singapore and where to escape to
Five times in 2027, you can switch off your alarm for three days in a row without spending a single day of leave. Four come from holidays that land on a Friday or Monday, and Chinese New Year adds the fifth. Here’s each one, with a short trip idea to match.
New Year’s Day: 1 to 3 January
New Year’s Day falls on a Friday, so you get Friday to Sunday off. That’s right in Phuket’s dry season, and the flight is about two hours. Catch a Thursday-night flight and you’ll have three full beach days.
The catch is price. This is peak season, so flights and hotels cost more than they do for the other long weekends. Book early, and expect to pay a premium over the rest of the year.
Chinese New Year 2027 Singapore: 6 to 8 February
Chinese New Year usually means reunion dinners, visiting relatives and too many pineapple tarts, so plenty of us stay home. If that’s you, Chinatown is the classic outing, with a street light-up and festive bazaar around the festival. Dates for the displays change each year, so check closer to the time.
Want to get away from the crowds? Bangkok is about 2.5 hours by air, and February is dry season there. Flights fill up fast on this weekend, so book early.
Good Friday 2027 long weekend: 26 to 28 March
Good Friday on 26 March gives you a Friday to Sunday break, and Taiwan fits it neatly. Taipei is about 4.5 hours away, so a Thursday-night flight after work gets you three full days on the ground. Late March is mild, though spring drizzle is common, so pack a light rain jacket.
But here’s the downside: that’s a long flight for a short break. Stick to Taipei alone and use the MRT and night markets to fill the weekend, instead of trying to cover the whole island.
Hari Raya Haji: 15 to 17 May
Hari Raya Haji falls on Monday, 17 May, so you get Saturday to Monday off. Johor Bahru is the easiest escape, and the Singapore to Johor Bahru bus starts from S$2.60. The ride usually takes one to two hours, depending on how long the immigration queues are.
Long weekends are when the Causeway queues are longest, so aim to cross early in the morning. Bring a passport with at least six months of validity, and pack light, because you’ll step off the bus with your bags at the checkpoint. This weekend is also the start of Super May, so skip ahead if you want to stretch it.
Klook Tip: Save your bus QR code offline and keep the receipt the driver gives you. You’ll need it to re-board after immigration.
National Day 2027 long weekend: 7 to 9 August
National Day lands on Monday, 9 August, so Saturday to Monday is yours. If you’re staying in town, Marina Bay is where many people head for the fireworks and celebrations.
If you’d rather leave, Bali is under three hours away and August is its dry season. It’s also peak season, so expect higher fares and villa rates. Families get a bonus here, because schools are closed on Tuesday, 10 August too.
2027 leave planning Singapore: the Super May hack
May is where your leave goes furthest, so circle it first. Hari Raya Haji is on Monday, 17 May, and Vesak Day 2027 is on Thursday, 20 May. Take leave on Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19 and Friday 21 May, and you’re off from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 May. That’s three days of leave for nine days away.
Nine days is long enough for Japan or Korea without feeling rushed. Europe works too if you fly direct and stick to one or two cities. Keep in mind that everyone else could have the same idea, so request your leave early and book flights as soon as it’s approved.
Friday bridges for four-day breaks
Not keen on using three days of leave? A single Friday still does a lot. Vesak Day falls on a Thursday, so taking Friday 21 May gives you a four-day break from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 May. Deepavali 2027 on Thursday, 28 October works the same way: take Friday 29 October and you’re off until Sunday 31 October.
Hari Raya Puasa 2027 is on a Wednesday, 10 March. Take Thursday and Friday and you get five days off in a row. Deepavali weekend is also a good time to see Little India lit up and busy with the festive market.
School holidays 2027 Singapore: key MOE dates
If you’re juggling leave with school calendars, these dates are worth saving now. Ministry of Education (MOE) schools run from Monday, 4 January to Friday, 19 November. The regular breaks are 13 to 21 March, 29 May to 27 June, 4 to 12 September, and from 20 November onwards.
MOE has also scheduled three extra school holidays: Monday 5 July (Youth Day), Tuesday 10 August (the day after National Day) and Friday 3 September (Teachers’ Day). The August one gives schools a four-day National Day break from Saturday 7 to Tuesday 10 August. Friday 3 September also sits right before the September break, so kids get ten days off in a row.
Schools also close on Tuesday 9 February, Monday 3 May and Monday 27 December as off-in-lieu days. That stretches Chinese New Year to four days for school-going families, and gives the Labour Day and Christmas weekends a third day. International schools follow their own calendars, so check yours.
A four-day National Day break suits Universal Studios Singapore, with tickets from about S$70. Weekdays are usually calmer than weekends, so Tuesday 10 August is worth a look if you can take the day off.
Booking tips for long weekends
Long weekends are great until everyone else has the same idea. Flights and hotels go up in price quickly on these dates, so book as soon as your leave is approved. If you’re heading to Johor Bahru, expect Causeway and checkpoint jams on the first morning and the return evening.
Prefer to skip both the airport and the Causeway? The Majestic Fast Ferry to Batam takes roughly an hour each way. And if you’d rather stay home, the next two sections have attraction deals and staycations.
Staying home? Attraction deals for 2027 long weekends
Not every long weekend needs a passport. Some of the best ones are the ones where you play tourist in your own city.
The Klook Attraction Saver Pass lets you bundle 2 to 10 attractions into one pass, from about S$98, with savings of up to 44%. The catch is that you need to reserve each attraction in advance, and you can’t change a reservation once it’s made. Pick your dates for the weekends you know you’ll be free.
For an easy half day, Gardens by the Bay tickets start at S$18, and it’s a short walk from Marina Bay Sands. It pairs well with the National Day weekend.
