Takachiho Gorge is a stunning natural wonder located in Kyushu Island, Japan. It's formed by the Gokase River and features tall walls of volcanic rock and lovely waterfalls, like the stunning Minainotaki Waterfall. One of the most popular activities to do here is to go on a boat ride to explore the narrow chasm up close. Takachiho Gorge boat rental is available near the southern end of the gorge, so you can paddle under the towering cliffs and waterfalls. If you prefer to stay on land, a scenic paved path runs along the gorge with lots of lookout spots. Another fantastic place to visit is the Takachiho Shrine. Here, you can learn about local myths and watch the traditional Takachiho Kagura dance. So why wait? Whether you plan a day trip or a longer stay, Takachiho Gorge offers a breathtaking escape into nature that you shouldn't miss on your trip to Japan!

Super recommended! You can just start from Fukuoka Tour Bus. The three scenic spots are super spectacular. A self-driving tour should take twice as long, and the tour guide is very friendly and tells a lot of historical content. There is also a gift to receive at the end, which is a super surprise!

Thomas, our guide, was very kind, informative, and funny. The planned itinerary was followed to a T, and the ride to each destination was smooth. Rest stop breaks were given for drives longer than 2 hours. The destinations were great sites to appreciate both the natural landscape and culture of the region. Takachiho Gorge was spectacular and well worth it. We even got a free souvenir at the end of the trip. Highly recommended!

I have been to Japan more than a dozen times, and this is my first time to join a one-day tour group. Overall, I feel pretty good. This route is the longest one-day tour route from Fukuoka (400 kilometers round trip, 6 hours by car). Joining the tour group solves the problem of transportation connection very well, saving time and effort. I went to Kumanoza Shrine, Ama Iwato Shrine, Amayasu River and Takachiho Gorge, and the scenery was nice. There were only 21 people on the 45-seater bus, and the space was very comfortable. I was not afraid of crowds when I arrived at the scenic spot. The group members were awesome, no one was late, and the trip was smooth and enjoyable. The tour guide Thomas was professional, enthusiastic, humorous, patient and detailed in his explanations, and the recommended lunch and shopping options were also very affordable. At the end of the trip, each person was given a box of local snacks.

This time I participated in a trip from Fukuoka to Kamiromi-Kumanoza Shrine-Tianan Kawara-Amaiwato Shrine-Takachiho Gorge. I found the arrangement of this trip to be very convenient and saved a lot of time in transferring trains. Plus our tour guide Helen He carefully introduces and explains each scenic spot. In addition to seeing the scenery, you can also learn a lot of historical allusions. I sincerely recommend that people who come to Fukuoka for free travel can participate in this itinerary. It won’t be too early to leave and it won’t be too late to return to the city.

The itinerary is very interesting and will take you on a small train. The train uses waste cooking oil as fuel, which is quite environmentally friendly. In addition, if you buy this itinerary in winter, remember to dress warmly, as it is very cold in Takachiho.

Highly recommended tour! Great experiences especially the gorge and railway. Ada was our guide and she was excellent. She tried her best to give us information in English although she was more proficient in Chinese. We are seniors and not too fast on our feet; Ada took great care of us. Thank you.
