We had a wonderful time today for this nice tour. Even though the boat ride was canceled in the Takachiho gorge because of the heavy rain, the walk there was spectacular. The Kamisikimi shrine was also a nice addition and you will make beautiful pictures here. Milk and ice cream from Mount Aso were delicious. A special thank you to guide miss Kong that gave us all the information needed in a perfect English. We felt lucky to have you, Kong!

This itinerary was very close to nature, and we really enjoyed the overall experience. If you visit Takachiho in the fall, the orange and red maple leaves would be absolutely beautiful. We also added the scenic train ride, and the views were truly stunning! The only minor drawback was that we had too little time at Kusasenri; otherwise, it would have been a great spot for photos, with its vast grasslands and delicious food. Our tour guide also provided very detailed explanations of the stories behind the itinerary, which helped us understand more. We will definitely recommend this tour to our friends!

Thank you to our guide, Mr. Miyamoto, for his excellent explanations, help with taking photos, and detailed introductions to the sights. He even made his own map on a drawing board, which showed great dedication. Although it rained all day and was a bit cold, the scenery was still beautiful.

Although the heavy rain was a bit of a drawback, our tour guide, Mr. Miyamoto, was so engaging that the entire trip was far from boring! ✨

Our tour guide, Miyamoto, was very dedicated to introducing the sights and leading the group. It was a shame that Mount Aso was closed this time, and the weather was also unfavorable. I hope to have the opportunity to visit again in the future.

It was a bit rough encountering heavy rain throughout the trip, and although the boating was canceled, we still managed to complete the entire journey and see all the sights. Our guide, Kevin, was amazing, providing explanations in both Chinese and English, and meticulously planning everything. Our group had over 40 people, and there was a small hiccup when two members went off to take photos a few minutes before we were supposed to board the bus, and we couldn't find them. Due to the rain, we were already behind schedule and couldn't be late for the paid mini-train ride. Kevin had no choice but to tell the driver to leave on time without waiting for the two individuals. I think this was reasonable because it wouldn't be fair for two people to cause all of us who had paid for the tour to miss the mini-train. Haha. 😅

Stroll the Gorge Walkways

Follow the well-paved path for epic views of the cliffs, river, and lush greenery. You'll find multiple photo spots and scenic bridges.

Taste Local Specialties

Try Takachiho's wagyu beef, handmade udon, and snacks from local vendors near the monument area.

Try Nagashi Somen (Flowing Noodles)

Use chopsticks to catch cold noodles zipping down a bamboo slide---fun and delicious!

See Other Waterfalls

Don't miss the Tamadare Waterfall, just a short uphill walk from the main gorge area.

Feed Koi at Onoro Pond

Buy koi food for ¥100 and feed the colorful fish at this serene pond with a tiny shrine on an island.

Tips Before Visiting Takachiho Gorge

Book Your Boat Early

Boat rides sell out fast! Reserve a spot online up to a week in advance on the official tourism site.

Boat First, Explore Later

If you're getting same-day tickets, head straight to the boat rental station before sightseeing.

Parking Strategy Matters

Ohashi lot is free but includes a long walk. Avoid the 500-yen lot during busy hours---it's stressful with lots of foot traffic.

It's Budget-Friendly

A trip to Takachiho Gorge is relatively affordable. Major costs include food, parking, and souvenirs.

Don't Worry if You Miss the Boat

Even without the boat ride, visitors say Takachiho Gorge Japan is "totally worth it" thanks to its natural and spiritual charm.
