1. Zoo Negara

At the top of our list is Malaysia's very own National Zoo! Officially opened in November 1963, Zoo Negara is home to over 400 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. The open concept zoo covers 110 acres of land and is dedicated to conservation, recreation, education, and research of a wide variety of animal and plant species including endangered and exotic species such as orangutans, Malayan Tigers, tapirs, and more. Make sure you pop by the Giant Panda Conservation Centre to visit the pair of adorable giant pandas while you're here!

2. Langkawi Wildlife Park

With a tropical rainforest ambience, the Langkawi Wildlife Park is home to over 150 species of animals and birds from all over the globe such as bearcats, mousedeer, ostriches, raccoons, guinea pigs, and an aviary full of free-flying birds. We also love that the park is a fully-covered space with covered walkways and sheltered exhibit areas - this way you'll get to take a break from the sun and explore it whether rain or shine. Located in Seri Kembangan, Farm In The City is quite literally paradise on earth for animal lovers. Unlike in typical zoos where animals are usually kept in cages and enclosures out of reach, it strives to be more than a viewing exhibit - in fact, encouraging visitor interactions with animals in an authentic environment is at the core of the petting zoo's mission. Feed, pet, and befriend rabbits, guinea pigs, deer, alpacas, ponies, raccoons, and more gentle creatures here!

4. Zoo Taiping & Night Safari

Located in Taiping, Perak, the Taiping Zoo was built in 1961, making it one of the oldest zoos in the country and also one of our personal favourites! This zoological park covers over 36 acres and is home to about 180 species of animals, with over 1300 of these furry friends waiting to meet you. Our favourite part would definitely be their night safari - as the sun goes down, hop onto a tram that would bring you on a tour that gives you a different look at the animal world as you observe nocturnal animals in their natural habitats.

5. Lok Kawi Wildlife Park

Sabah rich with lush flora and fauna, so it's no surprise that the state is also home to one of the most well-run wildlife parks in Malaysia. The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is spans across 280 acres of land and is dedicated to offer the best of 2 components - zoological and botanical. Among the inhabitants that call this zoo their home are the Proboscis monkeys, Borneo Pygmy elephants, Malayan tigers and more. While here, visitors can also take the opportunity to go on a leisurely stroll or jungle trek along the park's 1.4km stretch of paved botanical trails.

6. KL Tower Mini Zoo

Did you know that there's a mini zoo nestled in the heart of KL? Located on the ground floor of the iconic KL Tower, the KL Tower Mini Zoo is home to a wide range of exotic animals from cheeky squirrel monkeys to cuddly rabbits, meerkats, sugar gliders, and the world's smallest horse species. While it isn't as huge as other animal attractions in Klang Valley, it's still pretty fun as a spontaneous weekend outing spot with your family (especially if you're planning a day out with animal-loving kids).

7. Johor Zoo

When in the city of JB, don't miss out on the Johor Zoo! Built in 1928, this zoo is the oldest in Malaysia and is said to even be one of the oldest in Asia. Spend some time with your loved ones here as you meet over 100 different species of animals, which include Indo-Chinese tigers, elephants, hippos, and our favourite one of all, the friendly camels. For some extra fun, go boat paddling on the zoo's mini lake or take some up-close pictures with the furry friends here. Pssst... the entrance fee to this zoo is also one of the cheapest in Malaysia, making it a popular family outing spot on the weekends!

8. Sunway Wildlife Zoo
Most people know Sunway Lagoon for its water slides and adrenaline-pumping rides, but did you know that there's a wildlife park nestled in the theme park? Melaka may be known for its historical sites and chicken rice balls, but you should also pay a visit to the charming Zoo Melaka, officially known as the Malacca Zoo & Night Safari. Home to over 1200 animals from 215 different species, it is also the second largest zoo in Malaysia, right after the national zoo. Although not exactly a zoo, Langkawi's very own Crocodile Adventureland is one we couldn't leave out of this list! The crocodile farm is located in the Teluk Datai Bay area at the northwestern end of the island and spread across 20 acres of land. Here, you can get up-close and personal with one of the largest collections of Malaysian saltwater crocodiles of various different species and sizes here! The farm is well-maintained and promises a fun, educational visit - visitors can even hand-feed young crocodiles and watch them perform stunts.
