Must-visits & fun things to do in Cameron Highlands
1. BOH Tea Garden
The BOH Tea Garden is definitely one of the most iconic sights in Cameron Highlands, offering a refreshing backdrop of lush tea fields as far as the eye can see. The tea garden has a rich history that dates back almost a century and is home to BOH's first tea factory which was built in the 1930s. Besides walking through the beautiful plantation, guests can also take a tour of the tea factory, purchase souvenirs at the gift shop, and sip on fine teas at the cafe overlooking the fields.
2. Mossy Forest
Have you heard of the mysterious Mossy Forest tucked in the highlands of Mount Brinchang? Blanketed with enchanting mist and shrouded in a magical aura, Cameron Highland's Mossy Forest is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Located at an elevated position of 2,032 metres, this moss-choked forest looks straight out of a scene from the Lord Of The Rings or Avatar film.
It is pretty difficult to get here on your own, so we'd recommend joining a tour (that comes inclusive of a professional guide and hotel transfers) for a hassle-free, enjoyable visit.
3. Gunung Jasar
Want to start your day with a good sweat? Trek your way up Gunung Jasar, a popular mountain amongst nature and hiking lovers! The trail isn't too difficult to conquer and you'll be rewarded with fresh air as well as unobstructed views of Tanah Rata and Cameron Highlands as a whole from the top, making all the hard work worth it.
Book your Gunung Jasar trekking tour on Klook that comes inclusive of hotel pick up and drop off services, a professional guide, as well as a pit stop at Tan's Camellia Garden, a garden dedicated to Camellias of all hues, shapes, and sizes.
4. Cameron Flora Park
The Cameron Flora Park is a new picturesque floral garden located in Kea Farm, an agricultural district in Cameron Highlands. If you love florals, you'll be in for a visual treat at this dreamy space featuring all kinds of beautiful blooms. Besides being able to roam around via the many walkways and stairs that wind through the park, visitors can even have an aesthetic private picnic against the backdrop of a sea of pink flowers. Pack your favourite snacks, put on your best dress, and get ready to take lots of shots at the Cameron Flora Park!
5. Cameron Lavender Garden
Here's another spot for flower lovers! The beautiful Lavender Garden (also known as Cameron Lavender) is another popular attraction in Cameron Highlands. Located just a 10km drive from Brinchang town, the Lavender Garden is filled with not just all types of dreamy lavender but also lovely Japanese roses, morning glory, hydrangea, and daisies of all colours. The garden is also well-decorated with cute props that are perfect for photos and is dotted with shops selling everything from souvenirs to homemade lavender-flavoured ice cream.
6. Kea Farm Market
Catch a glimpse of the lives of the locals at the Kea Farm Market, one of the largest markets in Cameron Highlands. This popular market is open for most of the day and is known as a great place to shop for fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, snacks (such as steamed corn, homemade ice cream, and deep-fried sweet potatoes!), and all sorts of knick-knacks sold by local traders and farmers. Have a fun time exploring the market and trying to get the best bargain while you're here!
7. The Sheep Sanctuary
While you stroll through the Kea Farm Market, keep an eye out for a huge signage bearing a cartoon sheep and stop by The Sheep Sanctuary - this space is home to gentle, fluffy, adorable sheep! Visitors are free to pat, feed, and play with sheep that are either kept in well-kept enclosures or allowed to roam around freely. There's also a little cafe overlooking the sanctuary where you can sit down and rest your legs if you're feeling tired after all that sightseeing.
8. Strawberry farms
Besides fine tea and fresh vegetables, strawberries are also an icon of Cameron Highlands. The cool climate in the highlands makes it the perfect spot for cultivating strawberries all year round, which is why Cameron Highlands is dotted with spacious strawberry farms whether in Tanah Rata, Brinchang, or Kea Farm. Pop by one of them to experience handpicking huge, juicy strawberries by hand and treat yourself to strawberry food products such as waffles, ice cream, biscuits, jam, drinks, and more!
🍓 Popular strawberry farms include the 7 Strawberry Farm, Raju's Hill Strawberry Farm, and the Big Red Strawberry Farm.
9. Cactus Valley
Bring home cute pots of cacti as a souvenir from your trip, either for yourself or also perfect as a gift for friends and family. The Cactus Valley is perched on a hill slope overlooking Brinchang town and features an extensive collection of cacti, flowers, and all sorts of beautiful ornamental plants. We heard that some of the cactus species here are never seen before in other parts of the country! Learn about unique cacti species here and bring some home with you before you leave. You can also check out Cactus Point, a similar nursery located a few miles beyond Brinchang.
10. Glamping at Stellar GoldenHill Cameron Highlands
Treat yourself to stunning hillside views and a memorable stay in a cosy caravan! Stellar GoldenHill Cameron is a caravan glamping site in the hills for an unconventional nature getaway, perfect for couples, families and friends. It definitely makes for a memorable chilly staycation, especially when paired with a steamboat feast or a hot cup of tea and sweet treats.
Stellar GoldenHill also offers charming tents to stay in, but if you've got extra to splurge, we highly recommend booking their signature caravans, which provide a unique stay experience in an endearing and stylish space, outfitted with plush furnishings and rustic decor. The best part is that each unit also has its own private outdoor space with seating and tables, made for you to chill outside and soak in the cooling air!
11. Jim Thompson Tea Room, Cameron Highlands Resort
Looking for a spot to have a leisurely afternoon tea? Plan a visit to the Jim Thompson Tea Room located in the iconic Cameron Highlands Resort. This elegant space features large, open windows, vintage furniture, and a classical charm - most people come here either for their afternoon tea sets (featuring a three-tiered selection of sweet and savoury treats) or lunch. If you're visiting during a weekend or public holiday, we'd highly recommend calling up in advance to place a reservation. Catch up with your loved ones over a good meal and fine tea. Elevate your experience by booking a stay at the beautiful Cameron Highlands Resort!
12. The Lakehouse
Also inspired by English heritage, The Lakehouse is another charming colonial-style boutique hotel in Cameron Highlands. Set on beautiful garden grounds and housing stylish rooms and suites featuring antique decor, you can book an intimate stay here or pop by for a meal at one of their restaurants, lounges, or bar. One of our favourite dining spots at The Lakehouse is their Lakeview Terrace, a beautiful space where you can enjoy lunch, snacks or an English-style afternoon tea and scones while basking in the afternoon sun.
13. Golden Hill Night Market
The Cameron Highlands Night Market commences every Friday to Sunday at Golden Hills, a residential area in Tanah Rata. For those who love the vibes of a lively pasar malam, head over to shop from stalls selling fresh crops, fruits, ornamental plants, toys, clothes, souvenirs, and snacks (fried mushrooms, chocolate-coated strawberries, apam balik, barbecued corn, and more!). The night market is open from 5PM till 11PM - we'd recommend popping by early before the crowd starts building up.
14. Butterfly Farm
Also located at Kea Farm in Brinchang, the Butterfly Farm (Taman Rama-Rama) is another popular family-friendly attraction in Cameron Highlands. In fact, it is one of the oldest attractions in the area and started off as a humble hobby by the founder who wished to create a welcoming, breeding space for beautiful butterflies. Explore a flower garden filled with beautiful blooms and free-flying butterflies, and feed gentle domesticated animals such as rabbits, ducks, and guinea pigs! There's also a similar, newer butterfly farm called the Butterfly Garden located nearby.
15. O&R Garden
Nestled in Brinchang is O&R Garden, another sprawling farm and garden space. This underrated gem is home to over 100 species of orchids and 30 species of roses, a haven for those who love viewing these colourful blooms. Kids would also enjoy the mini zoo here as they can closely interact with furry friends such as goats, hedgehogs, rabbits, civets, turkey and more!
16. The Time Tunnel Museum
The Time Tunnel is a cute museum located in Brinchang, housing an extensive, well-kept collection of memorabilia, artefacts, and collectibles from the past! Step back in time and have a fun, educational time exploring the museum with your friends or family and take cheeky photos at the many mock-up photo corners designed after nostalgic scenes such as a traditional barbershop, a kitchen from the olden days, a classic kopitiam, and more. If you're planning a visit to Cameron Highlands with your children, make sure to bring them here for a glimpse of life before they were born.
17. Honey bee farms
There are quite a few honey bee farms in Cameron Highlands, such as Cameron Tringkap Bee Farm, Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm and Melipoly Cameron Highland Bee Gallery. You can learn more about honey bees, how they are kept and taken care of in these apiaries (location where beehives of honey bees are kept) as well as buy some delicious honey as gifts and souvenirs!
