Tonkatsu is more commonly known as a Japanese dish, but did you know that the Koreans love it just as much as the Japanese do? Dig into delicious Korean-style tonkatsu that's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside - you can choose to eat it with Korean-style curry rice, kimchi fried rice, kimchi jjigae, ramyun, or even topped with jajang sauce.

2. Pocha

Pocha is a hidden gem tucked away in an unsuspecting shoplot in Ampang. If you're craving for some authentic Korean food, here's the place to head to. Run by an old Korean couple, this is a no-frills eatery that doesn't even have a proper signboard, has walls plastered with scraps of paper, a narrow corridor, handwritten menus, and private dining rooms separated by wood partitions.

You can get the usual Korean dishes here from delicious Korean pancakes to teokbokki with ramen, cold noodles, and comforting soups. The restaurant's old-school ambiance makes up for quite a unique dining experience! Do note though that it is known to be pretty hard to get a seat, and the owners do not speak much English.

3. Uncle Jang

There are many Korean dakgalbi (stir-fried chicken) restaurants in KL, but Uncle Jang is definitely a crowd-favourite and arguably one of the best (in fact, it's the first dakgalbi restaurant that opened doors in Malaysia back in 2007). Nothing beats the fun and satisfaction of eating from a giant round hot plate in the middle of the table over great conversations with your friends or family.

Dig into juicy boneless chicken stir-fried with cabbage, sweet potatoes, gochujang sauce, and Korean rice cakes. You can also opt to add on ramen or cheese for a more filling meal, or simply eat it with rice or fresh lettuce. End your meal by allowing the staff to add on a bowl of rice to be cooked together with the remaining dakgalbi you have!

4. Buldojang

Buldojang is a Korean-Chinese restaurant located in Desa Sri Hartamas. The restaurant specializes in Koreanized Chinese dishes, with the most popular one being their delicious jjajangmyeon! If you love the taste of sweet and salty black bean noodles, you'll have to give Buldojang a try. The restaurant is popular amongst Koreans living in the area, as well as Korean expatriates.

The jjajangmyeon here comes served in a huge bowl that can easily feed 2 - 3 adults, so make sure you don't over-order unless you're very hungry! We also suggest trying our their sweet and sour pork (tangsuyuk) and spicy seafood soup noodles for a taste you won't forget.

Sae Ma Eul is probably a familiar name if you're a fan of Korean BBQ, but if you haven't tried it yet, it's time to pop by for a BBQ feast! Located in Solaris Mont Kiara, Chi Mac Bistro is the perfect place to head to if you're craving some good old Korean fried chicken and beer. It's popular as a late night or supper spot as it is open up till midnight.

Besides delicious fried chicken (with flavours like snow onion chicken, soy sauce chicken, and bacon spinach chicken), you can also order some street food or mains - some of the popular dishes here include pork neck and beondegi soup. With a few restaurants in town, you can easily locate one near your place to satisfy your cravings whenever they kick in.

As the restaurant is managed and monitored by a Korean owner, you can expect authentic Korean dishes that may remind you of the BBQ eateries in Korea. Even the side dishes are delicious (and not to forget generously refillable!) - some even claim they serve the best kimchi in town. While most people head here for the BBQ, their other dishes like japchae, soups, and ramyun also taste great.

Kyochon has amassed a strong base of loyal patrons since the opening of its first store in Malaysia, and its easy to understand why.
