Fantastic 5.0
Had a great time visiting the Taiwan History Museum’s Nanmen Branch, the History Branch, and the Railway Park offers. Such a journey through the island’s cultural and industrial past. The Nanmen Branch building was an old factory of camphor and poppy so it showcase the history of these two products in Taiwans history. The History Branch provides a broader narrative of Taiwan’s nature. Meanwhile, the Railway Park brings history to life through interactive exhibits and restored locomotives, making it a delightful stop for both train enthusiasts and families.

This is definitely worth more than I paid (about USD $4.50) as it includes access to four different museums and you can use on different days (for a month). National Taiwan Museum is the place to go to learn about Taiwan’s history, culture, flora and fauna, etc. Museum was well done, free lockers for bags, toilets on each floor, whole floor for children to play, and so much more. Plenty of seats to rest and AC was great on a hot day!

It’s easy to buy. The 4-museum joint ticket only covers a few dozen mosquitoes. Within 30 days starting from visiting the first exhibition hall, you can visit all the exhibition halls once. The staff of the Railway Museum told you that you can enter and exit the exhibition halls multiple times on the same day with your ticket, which is very convenient. (As a side note, the Railway Museum can be reached in 5-8 minutes by walk from Taipei Main Station. There are also historical buildings to visit and take photos along the way)

It is definitely worth visiting for both adults and children, near Taipei Main Station. Each building retains its original style, and there is not much difference before and after the restoration. You don't have to worry about not being able to use up the four-museum ticket. After exchanging the ticket, you can enter each museum once within one month, so you have plenty of time to appreciate it carefully. For friends who like to appreciate architecture, these places are enough to make you linger.

Fantastic 5.0
Fun and interesting. The building is beautiful and the exhibitions are informative and interesting. It is very suitable for taking children to play and learn about the history of railways. There is also a small train to play with, which reminds us of the hard work of using coal mines to build steam trains. Very special experience! The souvenirs are also very special and in line with the style of the Railway Museum. This is a great place for both adults and children who love railways!

Very good value for money! With a one-hundred-yuan ticket, you can stay there all afternoon without any problem. There are also model trains, which is great for adults too. Eating and drinking is prohibited indoors, but there is an area where you can fill and drink water, and the indoor air-conditioning is cool. There is a free group tour, which is recommended to learn more about the history and details of the entire park.

There is quite a lot to see in the four museums. If you are interested in the museum, you can participate in the free guided tour on the day and learn a lot. The biological museum focuses on dinosaurs, fish and dolphins. The main pavilion is Taiwan’s natural resource, and I think the railway pavilion is the most exciting. Nanmen Pavilion is the smallest.
Guide
【National Taiwan Museum Main Building + Paleontology Hall】
- The National Taiwan Museum was established in 1908. The main building, formerly the Taiwan Governor-General Museum, is the oldest existing museum in Taiwan, characterized by its natural history collection. The Paleontology Hall was formerly the Taipei Branch of the Nippon Kangyo Bank. In 1991, the Ministry of the Interior designated it as a third-class historic site, and in 1997 it was changed to a Taipei City historic site. Since 2005, the National Taiwan Museum has been responsible for the restoration and subsequent operation and management of the historic site, positioning it as a museum of natural history and financial history.
【National Taiwan Museum Nanmen Branch】
- In 1897, the Taiwan Governor-General's Office stipulated an opium monopoly, and in 1899, the Monopoly Bureau Taipei Nanmen Factory was built as an important production base for manufacturing and testing camphor and opium, the two major monopoly products. In 1901, it was renamed Nanmen Factory, and in 1931, it was renamed Taipei Nanmen Factory. It was the only public camphor processing factory in Taiwan during the Japanese era. Currently, only the camphor warehouse (hereinafter referred to as the Red House), the goods warehouse (hereinafter referred to as the Little White House), the 400-stone water storage tank, and a section of the factory's red brick walls remain. In 1998, the Nanmen Factory was designated as a national historic site by the Ministry of the Interior. In 2006, it was transferred to the National Taiwan Museum by the National Property Administration and incorporated into the Capital Museum System Project, restoring the historic site for reuse as an exhibition hall.
【National Taiwan Museum Railway Department Park】
- The National Historic Site Taiwan Governor-General Railway Department of Transportation was the site of the Taipei Machinery Bureau in the Qing Dynasty and the first modern train repair industrial park in Taiwan. Later, it became the management center for railway transportation throughout Taiwan. In 1989, the Taipei New Station was completed, and the Taiwan Railway Administration moved out, leaving the space idle. Since 2006, the National Taiwan Museum and the Taiwan Railway Administration have cooperated to promote the transformation of the Railway Department into a museum park.
- The Railway Department Historic Site Exhibition features four themed exhibition rooms, six digital guided tours, and twenty on-site displays of disassembled investigations, presenting the historical charm and architectural features of the Railway Department. From the perspective of restoration records, it leads the audience back to the restoration site to get a glimpse of the craftsmen, construction techniques, and restoration considerations involved in the restoration process of the historic site. The wonderful aspects of the Railway Department's historic architecture await your personal visit to discover them in detail.
