Get Ready for Minion Madness — And an All-New Expansion Coming Summer 2025!
If you're a fan of Despicable Me, there's one place in Osaka that deserves a top spot on your bucket list — Minion Park at Universal Studios Japan (USJ).
With its colourful streets, mischievous Minions, and themed attractions, it’s a zone filled with non-stop laughs and photo-worthy moments
And with a major expansion coming in summer 2025, there’s never been a better time to explore (or revisit) one of USJ’s most popular attractions!
What Is Minion Park at Universal Studios Japan?
Opened in 2017, Minion Park is a dedicated themed area inside Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.
It’s the first and largest Minion-themed zone in Asia, and it brings the world of Despicable Me to life with incredible attention to detail. You’ll find familiar sights from the movies like Gru’s house, the Minions’ lab, and even a whole neighbourhood built just for their chaotic antics.
Top Things to Do in Minion Park
There are two rides inside Minion Park: the Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and the Freeze Ray Sliders.
1) Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem
This is the main ride in the park — a 3D motion simulator that transforms guests into Minions and sends them on a hilarious, high-speed adventure through Gru’s lab. Expect plenty of chaos and banana-fuelled fun!
2) Freeze Ray Sliders
Perfect for younger guests, this spinning ride features mini vehicles shaped like snowmobiles, inspired by Gru’s iconic freeze ray. It's a gentle, giggle-filled ride that spins to fun music.
3) Character Encounters & Photo Spots
Keep an eye out for life-sized Minions roaming around for meet-and-greets! Snap a photo in front of Gru’s house or next to one of the many quirky storefronts. Don’t miss the giant Minion statue at the entrance — it’s a fan-favourite photo op.
If you’re looking for a pic with one of the Minions, this would be a great time to do so. The show takes on different themes throughout the year and typically happens four times a day. You may check the USJ website for the exact showtimes.
Where can I eat inside Minion Park?
At Minion Park, there are two Despicable Me and Minion-themed restaurants to keep you filled up during your day.
If you have a sweet tooth, the Delicious Me! The Cookie Kitchen may be the perfect spot to get your snack. Try the delicious Minion or Tim cookie sandwich baked in one of the Minions’ latest inventions. If you’re feeling a bit hot, you can freshen up with the Blue Hawaii Frappe with Minion Bucket or the Kung Fu Minion Mango Frappe.
Ba-ba-ba ba-banana. Yes, USJ’s Minion Park also features the Minions’ favourite food: bananas! At POP-A-NANA, you can get chocolate-banana-flavoured popcorn to munch on the go. Plus, it even comes in an adorable Minions bucket you can take home as a souvenir!
What Minion-themed souvenirs can I buy?
Speaking of souvenirs, did you know there are three shops you can visit inside Universal Studios Japan’s Minion Park? They’re all located in Minion Marketplace and are all connected, so you don’t have to step outside to transfer from one shop to another.
If you’re coming with your kids, you might wanna head first to the Fun Store, where you watch the Minions in action inside their Toy Research and Development Headquarters and buy their creations! There are adorable stuffed Minions and cute stationery items. There are even chopsticks, spoons, and forks decorated with Minions!
Looking to upgrade your wardrobe with Minions merch? Visit the Minions Pop Shop, and set your eyes on all kinds of clothes that bear the Minions and their favourite stuffed bear, Tim! You can get the trendiest pieces from sweaters to socks to baby clothes inside this store.
If, like the Minions, you also have a sweet tooth, then the Sweet Surrender will be your oasis inside the chaotic Park. Get all kinds of sweets and knick-knacks inside, such as cookie sets, custard puddings, caramels, and rice puffs. The best thing? They’re either shaped like the Minions or have a Minions-inspired container as a freebie!
