Kyoto Ghost Tour: Bamboo, Unsolved Mysteries & Dark Tales
- Join the unique nighttime ghost hunting adventure in Arashiyama
- Experience the mystical realm of Arashiyama's Bamboo Forest under the moonlight
What to expect
THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL GHOST TOUR.
This is something completely different—a uniquely Kyoto experience that blends creepy, fun, and thrilling storytelling with an unforgettable night out while walking around. If you’re expecting a haunted house, an asylum, or a prison tour or similar, this might not be for you!
We’ll start by grabbing a drink and dive into spine-tingling urban legends, chilling tales, and eerie events from Kyoto’s dark history. Instead of traditional yōkai or classic ghost stories, you’ll explore atmospheric streets and shadowy bamboo forests, immersing yourself in haunting tales and unique thrills.
This is for those who want a unique, creepy, and entertaining night out—not a typical ghost tour you’ve done before.

Perfectly spooky and an absolute delight! 10/10 This was an absolutely incredible experience! We went on the night tour in the Arashiyama forest, and it exceeded all our expectations. A special shoutout to our guide — he is simply amazing! A truly gifted storyteller. The Japanese ghost stories and local legends sounded genuinely creepy and gave us goosebumps, but at the same time, we learned so many fascinating and entirely new facts about the history of the area. The weather played along perfectly too: it was raining, and the wet, dark paths gave the forest that perfect gloomy, cinematic vibe. The atmosphere was indescribable — a complete immersion into mystical Japan! But the biggest indicator of success was my teenage son being absolutely thrilled (and Andrey isn't easily impressed!). He listened with bated breath the entire time. It was so cool!!! Highly recommend this to anyone looking for vivid emotions and a chance to see a completely different, mysterious side of Kyoto.
The guide got his stories from the locals and retold them to us very well. His humor was great, and the way he brought the stories to us was also very good.
We had an amazing time on this tour. Our guide Eric was amazing and a fantastic storyteller. He knew when to hype up the scary but also when to keep it light so it didn't bog down the tour as we walked through the forest and the town. Kyoto at night is beautiful and the bamboo forest was the perfect backdrop to it all. The tour itself runs about 2 hours and there is quite a bit of walking, but it's mostly flat ground so it's an easy walk. You get to visit a shrine during the walk and was told the history as to why it's a stop on the tour. I don't want to give to much away but I 100% recommend booking the Ghost Tour. It is absolutely worth the money and time.
Great great great experience, had so much fun walking around the forest at night and getting to learn more about urban legends in Japan and this and that about history. Definitely wouldve wanted it longer and with some more props but it was so worth it. Aron made the entire experience exciting and engaging without spoiling anything and he took care of us well. It was a great scare and would definitely go again if there were other locations. Thank you!
I've done many ghost tours all around the world and I can honestly say, this was one of the best. Zowee was a great guide and told many interesting and absolutely creepy stories. We did it on a slightly rainy night also which added a very creepy atmosphere to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. There was also a couple suprises along the way we didn't expect! Highly recommend.
I went with my family and we all had a blast! Our entire group was english speaking which was not an issue at all. Our tour guide Zowee was amazing! Super funny and kept the mood light when it needed to be, while also keeping us on our toes. The dark streets of Kyoto immersed us in immediately, we kept looking over our shoulders at every turn and ended the night screaming! 😱 This ghost tour was one of the highlights of my trip, I wish i could experience it all over again! Even scaredy cats like me loved it (just make sure you have a partner to cling onto lol)
Had an amazing experience with Eric! The whole tour, the stories, the bamboo forest, everything was top tier. Eric has a way of story telling and I really felt immersed with the whole experience. If you’re thinking of doing this, just do it!
I highly recommend. Communication pre-tour was excellent with a reminder email of where to meet and a picture of where in the station, so you can't get lost. Our guide Aron was very friendly and funny. I knew right away we were in for a good tour and he is an excellent storyteller. Also accompanying us was Zowee, who was also very fun and friendly. English speaking tour with no language barrier issues. There is a section later in the tour with a walk though a completely dark section alone, but they were sure to check whether anyone didn't want to do it alone. Our group were all brave though. Ending the tour, we were walked back to the station whilst hearing more tales. I appreciated them making sure everyone knew where they were going and getting us on that train shortly after 10pm. As a reward for surviving the tour, we were also given a little gift! There is a 2 ticket minimum for the tour and I am a lone traveller but I bought two tickets to go and it was worth it.
Highly recommend this ghost tour, our tour guide aron had a spooky story for every spot we went to. Some stories gave me the chills at some points, great to learn about more of the history of Japan. This was one of my favourite things i did whilst in Japan!!
it was raining cats and dogs the evening when we went but the story telling and the jokes of the local guide made up for the bad weather. I would definitely recommend this tour!
Good to know
- Highly recommended to visit the Kimono Forest at the Randen Station before the tour
- Please don't visit the bamboo forest before the tour
