Reviews
Such an interesting experience and not some kind of fake touristy show. Actually got to see sumo players train and fight against each other in one of the largest stable. Also the guide used to be a sumo newspaper journalist and has a lot of knowledge and passion for sumo, love all the stories he shared about sumo and his experience.
This is definitely my best experience in Japan during 3 weeks. It worths every penny that I spend! Every sumo guys are so much attractive by their way of practicing during that morning. Setsu is definitely the star of the morning, with all of his passion and patience in happy mood, he guided us from this surprising to other surprising. I highly recommend this tour to all of my friends and also to people who are interested in this tour. Just go ahead without hesitate, you are gonna understand my current feeling. Cheers!
One of the best experiences of our life! This REAL true cultural tour will leave you with the knowledge, understanding and appreciation for the Japanese culture. Tour Guides were so kind, knowledgeable and entertaining.
Amazing experience, although not cheap. The training is full of action and you can understand it part of it by reading the email they send before. I preferably would always choose the first time block they offer so I could sit right in front and see everything without problem, maybe those who are not so patient would not enjoy it. The Q&A after and the stories are also nice.
This is a Definite Book thing. The Location was Easy to Find. The Tour Guides were Friendly and Provided Lots of Info. You can ask Any Q's and they'll Answr them. Any Seat is a Good Seat at the Stable to Watch them Practice. Very Exciting to See. Lots of Action to See. Afterwards you get to take a Pic too withem. So make sure to Tip the Sumo's Well ...
Great experience, not cheap but well worth it. JapanShine Tours were great from the outset making contact and giving details of sumo wrestling, what to expect and meeting up instructions. Our guide was clearly very knowledgeable having been a journalist covering the wrestling, he answered loads of questions about the sport and lives of the wrestlers. we met at 7.25, short walk and then spent almost 3 hours watching the sumo warm up, train and wrest and then cool off. Able to take photos & video and photos with the wrestlers. JapanShine tours organised taxi transport to the sumo stadium and exhibition space where our guide explained more about the sport, answered questions and showed us the sumo wrestling ring for a further almost an hour. A great experience & would definitely recommend
it was a very educational and entertaining morning the sumo athletes provide a powerful display of their art and the 2 guides are both clearly passionate and knowledgeable of the whole realm of sumo sport. I would also recommend bringing a cash tip of your choosing as the sumo wrestlers are very appreciative and are more than happy to hang around for a photo at the end of their practice.
I truly enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to all international visitors to Tokyo. The pre-and post-arrangements were very good, and during the tour, we learned so much about sumo practices. Our tour guides were excellent at sharing their knowledge and answering our questions about sumo. One of the two tour guides was a sports journalist who specialised in sumo, hence the solid and professional experience. It is a small tour group, so we were all taken good care of.
With the typhoon in full swing, this meant our tour was only my husband and I as the others where stranded in Osaka. We loved this personal experience. Watching the sumos train was incredible. I would recommend woman to wear pants or a long skirt/dress as you will be sitting on a mat the entire time. After the training session we got a photo with the Sumos and gave them 1000 yen to show our appreciation. Our guide Shinya was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond for us, even offering to drive us to our next tour which was 10 minutes away. We really enjoyed this cultural experience!
Very nice tour! The sumo specialist Shinya was very informative, really funny and told us a lot about the world of sumo. Also contacted us the previous day with all the details and was speaking good English. A nice lady called Karen was also with us as part of the tour to help (as her English was fluent). Thank you very much !!
