Beautiful sightseeing train interior with intricate wood panels and excellent set menu served dish by dish, designed by Narisawa, a famous Michelin-star chef. We tried several alcohol and non-alcohol drinks. Train departed from Yufuin and is a small station so just arrive 10 minutes before. Show the “Final Itinerary” from Klook to station entrance staff to enter the platform. It was the highlight of our trip! The train staff helped store our luggages. We even bought a train model keychain and plum wine in a ceramic train model as souvenirs on board.
Such a memorable journey. The train is so beautiful, and the staff are so polite and helpful. The quality of the food is excellent, though it's using a lot of local ingredients that some of my party weren't familiar with, so there were some dishes they weren't as keen on. I think it would help if there were different meal options, particularly for those with allergies or intolerances (there is just one menu for everyone), or for younger people (my 20 year old nephew travelling with us doesn't have very mature tastes). The servings were generous enough for us all to be well fed by the end. All drinks are included. There are two seating areas - we did not specify when booking but we were placed in the open plan dining room (2nd pic) which was lovely, and some people were in these private tables with screens (5th pic)
The train was gorgeous. It looks very vintage, the staff were very welcoming. We were only 4 during the trip (me and my fiancé and an older couple who was celebrating their 40+? 50+? anniversary). The staffs were super friendly, they also explain in english. They let us roam around the train and take pictures in car 1 (for group I think) since we were situated in car 2. The sights were so peaceful, so scenic. It was so fun and cute when we pass some stops and there were people waving flags and saying hi and “arigato” for taking the train (I think). It’s really expensive but if you’re going to take a shinkansen going back to Hakata or going to Yufuin/Beppu and wanted to try Japanese course meal, this would be worth your money. The drinks were unlimited (almost got drunk tbh hahaha). I love the desserts served. This was really an unforgettable experience especially if you’re a fan of trains.
Booked Aru Ressha via Klook and received the boarding coupon via email. Very convenient. On the day of travel, just showed the coupon to JR Train staff and waited on Platform. All the dishes were nicely presented and tasty. Service was friendly. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks could be ordered. Overall a very enjoyable experience
The staff was welcoming and enthusiastic, the train design was beautiful, the seats offered a high degree of privacy, the food was exquisite and delicious, and complimentary beverages with various options were available throughout the entire journey. I didn't feel like I was sitting for 3 hours at all; the time passed quickly, and it's definitely worth experiencing.
The price is high, but it's worth it. The vehicles are luxurious, the food is exquisitely delicious, and the service is first-class. It truly lives up to its reputation as a famous sightseeing train in Kyushu!
You board not to get somewhere, but to arrive slowly. From Hakata to Yufuin, maybe Oita if you stretch it, it hums through the countryside at a pace that feels like an apology for every bullet train ever built. The light hits the gold trim and turns the whole carriage into a moving jewelry box. Inside, it’s a dining car dressed for theater. There’s velvet, fine china, a conductor in white gloves who actually means it. The crew moves with the choreography of people who love what they do — no pretense, just pride. Then the food starts. Five courses, crafted by a chef from JR Kyushu Sweet Train, the kind of meticulous precision Japan reserves for pastry and heartbreak. Savory bites that taste like the land you’re rolling through — Kumamoto beef, Hakata vegetables — and then desserts so delicate you hesitate before ruining them with a fork. Each plate is served with the care of a tea ceremony. The wine and coffee arrive exactly when they should. Time bends a little.
actually can bring big luggage on board . yummy food and great hospitality. worth trying . free flow beverages !
The service staff were friendly, charming, and enthusiastic. The interior design of the train car and the delicious meals truly make it worth the ride. It's a journey experience with a great sense of occasion. Highly recommended!
