This trip's itinerary is: Day 1: Narita Airport to Tokyo Station via Narita Express (N'EX), then transfer to the Shinkansen to Yamagata Station. Day 2: Yamagata → Shinjo → Oishida → Yamagata. Originally planned to take a boat tour on the Mogami River, but due to heavy snow, we turned back and went to Ginzan Onsen. Day 3: Took the cable car to Zao in the morning, then took the Shinkansen in the afternoon from Yamagata → Fukushima → Sendai → Tazawako. Day 4: Rode the Tazawako Lake Loop Bus, then took the train from Tazawako → Morioka → Shin-Aomori (Shin-Aomori → Aomori section of the JR line was suspended due to heavy snow, so we took a bus into the city). Day 5: Sightseeing in Aomori city. Shin-Aomori → Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto → Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto → Hakodate (JR Pass, Hakodate Liner is also usable!). Took the cable car up Mount Hakodate to see the night view. Day 6: Strolled around Hakodate city. Hakodate → Toya (Hokuto Limited Express) → Toya Ekimae → Lake Toya Onsen (bus). Enjoyed the Lake Toya Winter Festival Illumination and Musical Fireworks at night, it was incredibly beautiful.
pass voucher was mailed to me via DHL 👍🏻. easy exchange of voucher to actual pass at the airport. Booked all the Shinkansen tickets with ease at the airport. Pass was easy to use. wanted to go to Aomori and Hokkaido with the pass but met the mag 7.5 earthquake near the Aomori & Hakodate on the 1 night when I started my trip. so I changed my route to Fukushima and Yamagata. Ticket office allowed my full Shinkansen tickets change. will try again with this pass in my nxt Japan trip.
JR pass is very convenient and very reliable. You can travel unlimited on all JR trains including Shinkansen. This is a must-have especially to someone like me with difficulty in following cardinal directions. In case you went to a wrong platform, just go until you find the correct platform. You don't need to worry on buying another ticket.
This is my 3rd time purchasing JR Rail passes via Klook. The 1st time was the 14-days whole Japan Rail Pass and the 2nd time was the 5-days JR Hokkaido Rail Pass. This time round I booked in advance on the JR-East Ticketing website all the seat reservations for the shinkansens and limited express trains before leaving for Japan. Collected my JR Rail Pass and the tickets for all the reserved seats which I have reserved online in advance at the Midori-no Madoguchi office located at the basement of New Chitose Airport. I started using the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass from 11 to 16 May 2025 after using the 5-days JR Hokkaido Rail Pass from 6 to 10 May 2025.
Value for money. We went to Tokyo and Tohoku and Hakodate. Wide areas of coverage. Easy to exchange at Narita Airport too. We had trouble reserving seats at the machine, so had to get staffs at counter for help. They were all very helpful.
Very cost-effective if you are travelling from Tokyo - Yamagata - Hokkaido and back to Tokyo. We saved a lot by availing this regional pass. Exploring the less touristy area in Japan is a great experience for us!
When I’m going to Japan, I always buy one of the pass and this pass totally worth the price, I stayed at Sendai and moved around to Tokyo and Hakodate with this pass. This pass also allowed unlimited seat reservation on shinkansen and it’s so convenient. With my itinerary (visited all Tohoku prefectures + Tokyo + Hokkaido + Tochigi) , I saved about 100k yen by using this pass
My goal in this trip was to explore Hokkaido & Tohoku regions as I go down towards Tokyo and this pass was super worth it!! I recommend to exchange this pass in Sapporo Station early morning (which I did) instead of Chitose Airport when landed, coz the queue was terrible (been told by the staff will be 2hrs wait at the time). I used this pass to jump from city to city almost everyday starting from Sapporo ~ Hakodate ~ Hirosaki ~ Aomori ~ Akita ~ Sendai ~ Tokyo! I would definitely do it again next time when I plan to revisit or explore many more places in these regions! Totally recommended! 👍🏼👍🏼
We have used our JR Pass in our recent trip to Japan, we used it from Nagano then to Sapporo. Just make sure to book seats in advance and plan your trips very carefully and follow them. In our case, we seek help in booking seats in Midori No Madoguchi, the staff there are very accomodating.
We recently spent six incredible days exploring the Tohoku region of Japan as a family of four (two adults and two children), and the 6-day rail pass was an absolute game-changer for our trip! Ease of Use: From the moment we picked up the pass, it was seamless to use. The extensive coverage allowed us to hop on and off trains without worrying about purchasing individual tickets. The staff at the stations were incredibly helpful, especially when we needed directions or advice on train schedules. Convenience for Families: Traveling with kids can sometimes be challenging, but the rail pass made it so much easier. The trains were punctual, clean, and spacious, with plenty of room for our luggage and seats for the whole family. The children loved the comfortable seats and watching the beautiful landscapes zoom by from the windows. Amazing Destinations: Tohoku’s charm truly lies in its diversity. With this pass, we were able to visit stunning spots like Sendai, Aomori, and Akita. Highlights included the magical Ginzan Onsen, the historical Hirosaki Castle, and the breathtaking Matsushima Bay. The kids were thrilled by the scenic train rides, and we adults loved the convenience of reaching remote, picturesque areas without the hassle of driving. Great Value: The pass saved us so much money compared to buying individual tickets, especially with the long distances we covered. We felt it was an exceptional value for families who want to experience the best of Japan without breaking the bank. Memories to Last a Lifetime: Overall, the 6-day rail pass gave us the freedom to explore Tohoku at our own pace and experience its hidden gems. We highly recommend it to families looking for a stress-free, enjoyable, and cost-effective way to discover this beautiful region. We’ll cherish the memories we made during this trip and will definitely use this pass again on our next visit!
