Shirakawa-go lighting is the most dreamy spectacle in winter in Japan, and it is only open to the public on four designated days each year (January 12, January 18, January 25, and February 1, 2026). On these four short nights, tourists from all over the world flock here, and tickets and places are often hard to find.
On this rare night, the snow-covered gassho-style village is lit up by dots of lights, as if time has stopped in a fairy tale world. Witnessing this scene with your own eyes is not only a travel memory, but also an unforgettable winter night miracle.
This tour departs from Nagoya, and you can enjoy the "Hida Little Kyoto" Takayama Old Town during the day, and arrive at Shirakawa-go in the evening to enjoy the lighting. There is no need to worry about reservations and transportation. The whole journey is accompanied by Chinese/English bilingual, and it is easy to grasp this precious experience that is only four days a year.

Reviews
great and good experience. tour leader are helpful & friendly. our tour start at Nagoya and we choose to drop at Takayama
I originally bought a ticket to go up to the observation deck to see the lights, but after arriving at Shirakawa-go, the tour guide told me that this tour group was not going up to the observation deck to see the lights. However, I paid twice the price of a ticket that didn't include the observation deck. This was supposed to be a wonderful trip, but I had to immediately communicate with Klook and the travel agency, which took up a lot of time. The tour guide, Amy, was very good. I understand it wasn't her fault, and she tried her best to communicate with me and resolve the issue. Later, I inquired about paying on-site to go up to the observation deck, but since I had already paid, I didn't want to pay again on-site. In the end, the travel agency and Klook discovered it was a system error and that the difference could be refunded. I guess that's okay then. Aside from this issue, the other arrangements were very good.
wonderful experience on the light up event. top quality Hida beef lunch 👍🏻
The original tour guide was supposed to meet at the designated location in Nagoya at 9:00 AM, but was 20 minutes late without any email or phone notification. After inquiring with other Klook tour guides, I found out there was a traffic jam on the highway and they couldn't arrive, so other guides had to fill in. There was really no explanation. Later, the substitute guide, who was also the driver, drove steadily and quickly throughout the trip, so the itinerary was acceptable. Additionally, the introduction mentioned a small Shirakawa-go Gassho-style house gift, but I didn't receive it. Upon departure, they risked saying it would be a half-hour walk in the dark to reach the designated departure location (from the "White Sausage Village" to the Klook guesthouse). This wasn't a good arrangement, but I had no choice but to accept it.
This trip was very worthwhile!!
The overall itinerary is smooth and comfortable. You have plenty of time in Gassho Village. The daytime version of the viewing platform is charming, and the night version of the lighting is elegant and romantic. It is well worth participating in.
There were instructions in Chinese, English and Japanese for the meeting place, but the driver didn't show up on the day of the meeting and had to temporarily share a car with another group. The tour guide was not included in the original plan. The only thing I was thankful for was that I still had time to attend the evening lighting event and go up to see the scenery before the observatory closed. I bought some delicious pudding and queued for a long time.
We were suddenly notified at 9 PM the night before departure that the departure time was moved forward by 1 hour. We had to change our train time to make it. Because of the illuminations, we also couldn't change the date. We were very passive and had no control over the situation.
