💗Mount Aso & Aso Boy Sightseeing Train Experience Tour
🏯 Kumamoto Castle (Optional boarding here; on December 29, 2025, due to Kumamoto Castle’s closure, it will be changed to Suizenji Park) As one of Japan’s three most famous castles, Kumamoto Castle was built by the famous general Kato Kiyomasa in 1607. After enduring wars and earthquakes, it has now been rebuilt and restored, symbolizing the spirit of the people of Kumamoto. Climb the castle tower for a panoramic view and feel the power of history and rebirth. 📍Friends who want to see Kumamon, the chief of Kumamoto, can walk to his office (approximately 30 minutes round trip). Please plan your time accordingly!
🌋 Mount Aso Nakadake Crater (Due to a helicopter accident, this attraction is temporarily closed. We will extend the time at Kusasenri) One of Japan’s few active volcanoes, experience the震撼 sight of the smoking crater and feel the energy of the earth. ⚠If closed on the day due to high gas concentration, the stay at Kusasenri will be extended.
🐴 Kusasenri A vast grassland at the foot of the volcano, with cattle and horses grazing, offering panoramic natural scenery. Lush green in spring and summer, and picturesque snowscapes in autumn and winter, you can enjoy horseback riding or leisurely strolls, savoring the charm of all four seasons.
🏁 Alight at Aso Roadside Station (No guide accompanying) Bid farewell to your guide at Aso Station and head to the last stop of your journey – a ride on the super popular sightseeing train 🚂 Aso Boy!
🐶 Featuring the cute mascot "Kuro-chan the dog", enjoy the Mount Aso volcanic group through panoramic windows. Highly recommended: try the pudding 🍮 sold exclusively on the train, and there's also a commemorative stamp service!
♨️ If the waiting time is long, you can relax and experience a day trip hot spring at the nearby [Yume no Yu]; or purchase fresh fruits, local specialties, and bento boxes at Aso Station. 📷 Fountain Plaza performance times: 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM, every 30 minutes | 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, every 20 minutes
✨Additional Notes If it is not possible to approach the crater due to safety factors, the stay at Kusasenri will be extended. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

We were very lucky to have good weather. Our tour leader, Ms. Liu Zhihong (Cico), contacted us via email the day before because we were joining the tour at the second stop, Kumamoto Castle, and confirmed she would help us get seats closer to the front. Today, both guides used all four languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) and explained everything very diligently. In addition, even though we had purchased our own Aso Boy train tickets for the return trip from Aso to Kumamoto, Guide Liu was very thoughtful. During a break in our free time, she first took us to confirm our train schedule before leading the rest of the group back. It was truly a wonderful trip, and we will definitely join again next time.
This was a great tour, visiting many famous attractions such as Kumamoto Castle, Mount Aso, and Kusasenri. However, because the tour was longer, we spent more time on the tour bus. Although we didn't get to ride the Aso Boy train, the Emerald Mountain Emerald train was also very beautiful. Unfortunately, it rained heavily during the train ride, making it harder to see the beautiful scenery outside the window. During the tour, one passenger was more than 15 minutes late returning to the bus. Thank you to our guide, Mr. Sun, for making the decisive decision to have the bus leave. I think our guide, Mr. Sun, was really great. He was able to fluently introduce the various attractions and was also very helpful with the needs of the tourists.
Unfortunately, the Aso Boy train wasn't running when I went, and another train was fully booked, so I had to take a regular train. Since I was boarding from Kumamoto, I was able to spend more time at Kumamoto Castle. For Kusa-Senri and Mount Aso, I recommend joining a tour group; the mountain signal is really poor, and it would be a hassle if Google Maps failed. Each attraction is scheduled for just over an hour (Kumamoto Castle gets a bit more time), which is quite tight but still sufficient and pretty good!
Our tour guide, Ms. Li, was very responsible. She contacted us the day before via international call to confirm the pick-up time and location. Although the weather wasn't great, luckily it didn't rain, and we were able to see another side of Mount Aso. Kusa-Senri looked like a lake due to the accumulated rainwater from the previous days. We were also fortunate enough to get panorama seats on the Aso Boy train, and the picturesque scenery along the way was the perfect ending to our trip.
This trip allowed us to stay in Osaka Castle for just the right amount of time, but if we had to go to the Kumamon office at our own expense, it would have been too rushed. We were unable to go to the Aso crater that day due to heavy fog, but we did book the Aso Boys Train for an experience trip, and the seats we booked on the train were also very good, which added a lot to the trip! (PS The tour guide abides by the company's rules and will not wait for latecomers.)
It was a good way to travel from Hakata to Kumamoto and squeeze in a few places of interest. It was my second day tour with the same guide, Lina, who recommended this day tour as an alternative mode of transport. More cost effective than my original plan of taking the shinkansen from Hakata to Kumamoto, then adding a day tour to visit Mt Aso and Kusasenri on another day. While Kumamoto castle is in the city and easily accessible, Mt Aso and Kusasenri are not, hence following a day tour is the most efficient way for non-drivers. I would've taken the scenic train from Aso Station back to Kumamoto, but it was fully-booked. So I took a regular train back instead with Lina's help. The only downside on this tour was the rainy weather that day. And the level 2 warning at the foot of the crater meant we couldn't go up to the crater mouth.
I recently joined a one-day tour with Klook and the overall experience was great! The tour guide was professional and enthusiastic, providing rich background knowledge and allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of the local culture. The itinerary was tight but not rushed, giving me plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the scenery. The lunch options are also good and the food is delicious. The only minor downside was the long journey, but that also allowed us to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Overall, this is a recommended travel experience!
This is the most satisfying itinerary among the 3 one-day tours I participated in this trip, no doubt about it! The tour guide Ada Yang was the key to the success of this trip. He was very responsible and started monitoring the volcano's concentration and open status from early in the morning and reported every hour. The road was closed due to yesterday's snow and condensation, and only one place was open for viewing. We were also nervous, but in the end, the whole road was open and everyone finally saw the white smoke coming out of the crater and the crater lake exposed by the wind. Ada's photography skills were also first-class, leaving the group members with memories that will last forever!
Because we were staying in Kumamoto, we had to meet the tour guide at Kumamoto Castle. Kumamoto Castle was very beautiful and spectacular, and it was worth a visit. Then we took a bus to Aso Volcano. We were very lucky that day and could see the crater up close, but it was very windy on the mountain and a bit cold. We also had delicious ice cream and later took the cute Aso Boy sightseeing train. The trip was very smooth.
Our tour guide, Thomas, was fantastic! His introduction was clear, concise, and humorous. It's a shame we couldn't get closer to Mount Aso due to the Level 2 alert, but the tour guide shared many photos. Great experience.
