Tokyo Yakatabune Cruise: Sukiyaki Cuisine, Show Performance, and Tokyo Tower Sightseeing Plan
- Yakatabune have been popular since the Edo period, and in the past, they were used by samurai or merchants to entertain distinguished guests.

- Recommended for: couples, parents and children, families, friends, and colleague gatherings.
What to expect
Board a traditional Japanese yakatabune boat and embark on a cultural journey rooted in Japanese history. The beautifully decorated boat, featuring seasonal cherry blossom elements and elegant Japanese interiors, is perfect for taking photos and creating unforgettable memories. Yakatabune boats were first used by aristocrats during the Heian period and became popular among merchants and commoners during the Edo period. Today, they remain a unique way to experience Japan’s charm from the water. During the cruise, you can admire Tokyo’s iconic skyline and the beautiful scenery along the coast from the spacious deck or comfortable cabin. Professional musicians will perform live shamisen – a traditional Japanese three-stringed instrument with a rich and moving sound – immersing you in the elegant atmosphere of ancient Japan. As the boat approaches Odaiba, you can enjoy the spectacular Tokyo Water Symphony musical fountain show. The performance combines water jets, music, and lighting effects to illuminate the entire bay area, lasting approximately 10 minutes per show. Please note: The fountain show may be temporarily suspended or have its schedule adjusted due to weather conditions (such as strong winds or heavy rain) or operational factors. The actual schedule will be based on the arrangements for the day. After the cruise, the itinerary can continue to Tokyo Tower. Take the elevator up to the 150-meter observation deck for a 360° panoramic view of Tokyo, bringing this cultural journey to a perfect close. Please note: Tokyo Tower tickets must be collected from the tour guide on the boat, and the tickets are valid for six months. Here you can experience: Authentic Japanese Experience Taking a yakatabune boat allows you to delve deep into Japanese history and culture, with the boat’s interior decoration immersing you in traditional Japanese charm.
Entertainment and Cultural Performances Professional performers will bring you authentic Japanese performances on board, adding to the fun and cultural atmosphere of the cruise. (If it’s a birthday or anniversary, please let us know; we’d be happy to sing a song for you.)
Unique Natural Scenery As the boat sails on the sea, you can enjoy not only magnificent city architecture but also beautiful natural scenery, especially enchanting during the cherry blossom season or autumn foliage.
Warm reminder: Children aged 3 and above need to register at the adult price. Infants under 3 years old are temporarily not accepted; we appreciate your understanding. Meals: The default meal is Japanese beef sukiyaki. If you prefer pork or vegetarian options (with vegetables and sweet soy sauce soup), please inform us 3 days in advance. If you have any dietary restrictions, please note them when placing your order.

Reviews
We chose a Yakatabune cruise for our trip with my parents. We had a wonderful time, enjoying the excellent shamisen performance by Mr. Hibiki, who shares a name with a famous whiskey, and the superb hospitality of the kind and beautiful Karen-san. It was interesting that we were the only Koreans, or even East Asians, on board. 😂 I'm also grateful to the cute boy, whose name I don't know, who spoke to us in Korean. The quality of the beef in the sukiyaki was also excellent. I highly recommend this for family travelers. It was the best! 👍
The trip was amazing, Shera did a great job giving us information about the places we passed by, also the food was very nice. the views at night in tokyo bay are something memorable. the music and songs were cool and interactive, everyone who chose this activity is going to have lots of fun.
The time is a little too short if you want to cook food, look outside, take pictures, and chat. However, because of the excellent tour guide Sheila, the tour still gets 5 stars.
It’s my husband and I’s first time and Japan and to kick start our trip we booked this river cruise! It was absolutely amazing and Lulu, our guide and host was wonderful. The beef sukiyaki we had for dinner was delicious. Everyone on the boat was gracious and kind and the experience was unforgettable. We highly recommend!
Such a fun experience! Do not hesitate. Making our own food was fun and the results delicious. The instrumentalist was truly talented. The singer was charming and really got the crowd going. Not to be missed.
We had a great time on this charming boat tour & dinner. The food was plentiful and tasty. Lulu was a marvelous host and Midori Sensei played beautifully and provided great fun interacting with the audience. The sites were great to see from the water, all lit up at night (except for the Statue of Liberty - wish they had lights on that). Very nice to sit on the roof deck for photos and a drink while stopped in Tokyo Bay. What a unique way to get away from the heat of the city and see some sights from a different perspective. We would recommend.
everyone on the cruise was so nice. The food was delicious, the entertainment was great, and the views of Tokyo Bay were wonderful. Karen was an exceptional host and always made us feel included and welcome. The traditional Japanese music on the ship was a wonderful way to finish the cruise. The Tokyo Tower show and observation deck were excellent too, but be aware you need to take your own transportation from the boat to the tower. We took a taxi since there was only an hour between docking and the show, but we got there in 15 minutes. Highly recommend this for all travelers.
Very happy interactive experience. We booked a 17:00 flight, which was just the time when the sunset transitioned to the moonrise - the sound of the shamisen, accompanied by the sunset glow of the Sumida River. Miss Karen's trilingual service was so strong that she took care of the guests at each table. Each group of tourists was very enthusiastic to introduce the attractions on both sides of the strait & the houseboat culture/help take pictures/take care of everyone's needs. At the end, we also briefly learned about everyone's experience. At the end of the cruise, each guest was given chocolate and good luck coins for blessing. The shamisen boy was cool throughout the whole process, playing the electric guitar with a sense of déjà vu, the folk song teacher's singing was very immersive, the interactive arrangement of the three songs was gradual, and everyone had a lot of fun. I bought a ticket for Tokyo Tower (to the middle of the tower), and now I'm taking the Oedo Line to see the night view.
The sukiyaki for dinner was delicious! The amount of meat exceeded expectations ❤️ Because there are many English-speaking tourists, the tour guide used Japanese to give the introduction and then translated it into English and then translated into Chinese. The introduction was much less than the original Japanese introduction. It is recommended that two English-Chinese translators can introduce at the same time. Itinerary A comes with tickets to the Tokyo Tower Observation Deck and Tokyo Yuna Traditional Arts Performance, which is a great deal! After taking the boat, we had to move to the East Tower on our own. The time was quite tight, and we almost missed the traditional performance. The performance was amazing, and the interaction between the dancers was full of energy. It was a performance worth watching!
this tour completes are tokyo trip experience. really worth it. from the food, the sunset, the performance, the vibes, and most specially the service all are exceptional. the feels with the traditional japanese music being played and the view. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
