This was a fantastic show that I absolutely don't regret. The arena is located a 10-minute walk from the castle, so it's ideal to combine both. Have an early lunch, then stop at Lawson (on the right) for drinks and snacks on the way. Otherwise, you can get food there, but it's not as good and it's expensive. The guides will be waiting for you in front of the arena, at the entrance of the large university building. You'll receive your precious tickets (ouch, the face value stings a bit!), an English audio guide, a map of the venue, and the fight schedule. There are brief explanations at the beginning, but the guides remain available throughout the match to answer your questions and are very charming. We were seated in the last 5 rows of the stands, but you can see very well from everywhere. The 5 hours there flew by. My 12-year-old daughter loved the pre-show shopping, the shaved ice with syrup, the atmosphere in the venue, and following the fights by betting on each player.
The tour team was excellent! Our guide, Yoyo, was lovely, kind, and enthusiastic, and her explanations were very thorough. Because my husband had difficulty walking, they even arranged an aisle seat for us at the last minute. The sumo match was spectacular, and the S-class seats offered a great view. I highly recommend this tour.
100% worth it! was doubtful at first of booking but so glad I was able to go during the final weekend. The guide was lovely and made it so much better with all the info about the wrestlers which we wouldn’t have know otherwise. In conclusion it was an amazing one of a kind Japanese experience, cannot recommend it enough. If you have children it is kids friendly, I saw some families with small children.
overall a great experience. Our guide was an avid sumo fan herself and ensured a smooth operation throughout the itinerary. We were given radio communication headsets so she could give us live translation & commentary of the tournament activities in realtime.
I struck out on getting tickets through the sumo official website and through buysumotickets.com. The tickets through Klook might have been overpriced, but we’re guaranteed and came with a tour guide that explained the history of sumo, showed us around the arena and provided us with commentary during the sumo matches through an earpiece (optional for you to listen to during the event). So a big shout out to our tour guide Maki as she was awesome!
This was an absolutely incredible experience. A very professional, passionate and gracious Expert guided us through the whole day with a real time explanation of what was happening via the Ear Pieces which were given. The literature was also highly informative and great a momento for what was a memorable day. Arigato Gozaimasu 😀
Fun and exciting to watch and learn facts about sumo. It is similar to watching sumo from tv as Yoko our guide explains live what is happening and give fun facts about the rikishi.
I had a great experience. Yoshi, our guide, was so helpful in explaining the background and rules of the tournament. Highly recommend this event.
Wow it was one of the best experiences I had in Japan. 100% worth the money. Our guide Yoko was so chamring and cheerful, gave us a Comprehensive explanation of the history of sumo, the rules were well explained too. The group size was approximately 12 people I would say, which is reasonable. The instruction was via a headset given by Yoko. I would do it again and again if I could!!
truly a one in a lifetime experience you wont get anywhere else. if you are even just the least bit curious about sumo this is the best way to experience it. I also want to show my appreciation for the guide. She was genuinely interested in sumo and the enthusiasm shone through to make it truly enjoyable day. met a bunch if friendly dudes as well and it wae fun predicting the outcome of the matches!
