This activity is highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto. We booked the 100-minute course, and it was incredibly worthwhile because we learned about both the dance for worshipping gods and how to show respect to deities, among other things. The instructor who trained us was very lovely and kind. There were no communication issues at all; she was very friendly. At the end of the course, we chatted a bit and took some beautiful photos. Overall, it's a highly recommended activity.
It was a wonderful experience overall! Our sensei was very nice, spoke good English, patient, friendly, taught us the basics of being a proper miko including the dance and I loved that I got to experience it and be able to execute the learnings later on with the priest. The staff there were all so sweet and nice and the shrine is beautiful.
This experience was one of a kind! I highly recommend this for anyone interested in miko or new religion customs and ceremonies. They are so informative and kind. It was amazing.
This wasn't my first trip to Japan, but since I was traveling alone, I decided to book this experience to enjoy various things, and it was quite a fresh experience. Even though I was late due to another appointment, I was able to participate without any problems. The session was conducted in English, and the instructor was incredibly fluent. I kept getting the steps confused and stumbled several times, but they patiently explained everything again and again. The experience itself is a program where you can experience the daily life of a miko (shrine maiden), including prayers and dances. After the experience, there's a photo opportunity. Since I didn't have anyone to take my picture, Chihiro-san, who was leading the session, kindly took many photos for me. Looking back, I wish I had taken a picture with her! I think it's worth trying for anyone who wants to experience Japanese aesthetics and is interested in traditional culture.💕
This experience was my favorite part of my trip to Kyoto! As someone who loves to study Shintoism and visit shrines, I found this experience extremely interesting and full of amazing things to learn! The instructor was so knowledgeable and taught me so much!
Very interesting! The teacher spoke English very well, and even though my level is very poor, I understood her perfectly! She taught us how to make an offering, a shrine dance, to purify our hands... There were only two of us in class! I recommend it!
This was a once in a lifetime experience, facilitated by the lovely miko guide, who spoke perfect English and had a lot of patience. Aside from dressing up like a shrine maiden, you learn about their life and duties, including participation in a ritual and learning part of a special dance. This experience was one of the main highlights of my trip, I highly recommend it!
It was a unique and very enriching experience. That day, there were only two of us participating, so I was able to calmly learn many things about Japanese culture and the Miko. Both Chihiro-san, who was our "teacher," and the rest of the temple staff were very kind and attentive. I recommend this experience if you want to live something different on your trip.
This was an excellent cultural experience. I learnt so much. It was just me and my friend. The miko that attended to us (I think her name is Masuda) spoke great English and explained everything really well. She was very nice and patient when explaining the duties and the ways of praying.Very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our questions. The pace of this experience was also great. We did not feel rushed at all. I highly recommend this to anyone. The temple is felt warm and inviting. This is an experience that i will definitely remember.
The experience content written above was quite perfunctory. The experience was richer than expected, perhaps because the floor was wet and hadn't been cleaned? First, we got dressed, greeted the deities, and washed our hands. Then, they taught us how to fold paper streamers to make tamagushi. We practiced offering tamagushi and a little Kagura dance. Finally, there was the formal worship and photo time. During the purification ritual, I truly felt purified. The shrine was also very quiet, which felt wonderful.
