That trip was fantastic, very well organized. We could choose from glass boat or snorkeling hire and could use resort facilities. The boat was fantastic and snorkeling good, island itself is beautiful too. This trip is very recommended. The vessel boat was great too, boat leaves on time. Great crew 👌
We love every minute of it. During the glass-bottom boat tour, we not only saw reefs, many fish, and a blacktip shark, but then we also joined the sea walk. We felt very safe, as the staff-to-participant ratio was almost 1:1. Afterwards, we did some snorkeling ourselves, which was incredibly thrilling.
The check-in process was easy, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The boat schedule was on time both going there and coming back to Cairns. I definitely recommend catching the earliest one due to it being low tide around 1-1:30 PM. So, if you really want to have lots of time in the water snorkeling, I definitely recommend doing the early tour. On the island, there were a few restaurants and a bar. But if you have picky eaters, I would recommend bringing something light if you choose to be there all day. Other than that, the snorkeling spots on the island were beautiful, and there was a lot of marine life. I definitely will be back.
I was very grateful that there were Japanese staff at the reservation center. I also felt at ease knowing that there were Japanese staff on the ferry, as well as staff who could speak Japanese. On the outbound ferry, I was served hot tea and cookies (I think coffee was also an option). I tend to get seasick, but I had no problems at all. It felt more like a continuous gentle sway rather than large rocking motions. However, the staff mentioned, "I don't think it will be very rough today," so it might depend on the weather and sea conditions. There were free seasickness pills available on board, so even if you forget your own medication, you should be fine. We booked the half-day course, departing at 10:30 and returning at 14:30, and chose the snorkel set rental instead of the glass-bottom boat, and the duration was just right. The snorkeling was in shallow water, but there were many small fish. If you swam a little further out, there were also many larger fish, bigger than an adult's palm. We were told that sea turtles sometimes come to the shallows to feed, but we didn't see any underwater. However, luckily, just before boarding the return ferry, one appeared under the pier, so we were able to see it. It was clear and sunny from the morning on the day, but perhaps because the weather was a bit bad the day before, the water seemed a little cloudy (this might be due to it being shallow). On the island, there were some goods at the diving shop, and there's a crocodile theme park, so I was satisfied that I could also enjoy shopping at its gift shop (you can enter the gift shop without entering the theme park). There was also a small shop selling ice cream and drinks, and plenty of benches and other places to sit, so you can enjoy yourself even outside the beach. The beach chairs on the beach are subject to a fee. If you're concerned about leaving your belongings on the sand, it might be a good idea to bring a leisure sheet or similar.
We chose the glass-bottom boat. We saw many corals and large fish. It was spectacular when they scattered food and fish and seagulls swarmed around. On the way there, we were asked if we wanted to rent snorkeling gear or take the glass-bottom boat, and given information about the times. It looks like we arrive in Cairns at 16:30, but the departure from Green Island is at 16:30.
I do recommend doing this tour to see some of the Great Barrier Reef. Unfortunately, a lot of the Great Barrier Reef areas are advised not to swim in do to stingers (jellyfish) so there’s a limited area they recommend snorkeling at; however, you can pay additional to do a glass bottom boat which I assume would cover those areas but idk personally since I didn’t do the glass bottom boat. The snorkeling was still nice since I did get to see plenty of colorful fish but not much reef. If you want to snorkel a big area of reefs, then you probably want to book a different tour. I’m surprised they didn’t have any stinger suits included for the snorkeling to be able to snorkel all over. However, this island has an area for watching a live show with crocodiles (cost extra), can walk around the entire island, has a pool that’s included, multiple overpriced eating places, can pay additional for parasailing and helicopter tour, etc. If you just want to snorkel and relax then book from 10:30-4:30.
We loved almost every moment – the glass-bottom tour was amazing, and then we were really excited to go snorkeling. The only issue was that the tide was out, and snorkeling from the beach wasn't worth it, especially since you had to pay $15 for a beach chair, and the guy dragged it into the sun – $30 if you wanted an umbrella. So, we purchased an extra snorkeling boat tour, which cost more money and was upsetting to pay, but it was more than worth it! The guide was great, and we got to swim with a turtle.
worth the visit, you can do so many things in a single day. good for people who don't have much time
It was very good. The sea was incredibly beautiful. The crew members were kind, and I was relieved that some of them could speak Japanese. Parasailing was excellent, although it costs extra. I want to go again.
