Taiwan PASS 臺灣鐵路｜台鐵+Metrô+Taiwan Tourist Shuttle

At the end of the summer vacation, I took my children by train to Taitung and Taichung. In Chishang, Taitung, we rented electric bicycles to enjoy the scenery along “Brown Boulevard.” For lunch, we went to the second floor of “Wu Tao Chishang” to eat rice balls while admiring the view outside the window. In the afternoon, we enjoyed afternoon tea at “Chishang Dou Zhi Jian.” The children absolutely loved taking the train to Taitung to ride bicycles and enjoy the scenery; we’ve been to Taitung twice. We plan to visit Hualien, Yilan, Taipei, and other places next time. Thanks to the Taiwan Pass scheme, we bought our tickets on a Friday, so I couldn't get train tickets for some time slots. This experience taught me that next time I need to book travel tickets “in advance” so I don't miss out on my preferred train times. ← This is the only problem I've encountered so far using the Taiwan Pass.

The old Tze-Chiang Limited Express has no space for luggage, which gets stuck between the seats and the aisle, making it very inconvenient. It's best to take the new Tze-Chiang Limited Express if you have luggage. Also, you really don't need to go to Kenting; the eastern coast has much better views.

This is very convenient for travelers whose itineraries require transfers to MRT systems or bus connections. Even if you only use the TR-PASS 5-day ticket, you can travel around the island by train for 10 consecutive days, with unlimited rides on all classes of trains for just NT$280 per day, which is truly excellent value for money.

Taking the train for long journeys is much more relaxing; I can just rent a car once I arrive at my destination.

Using the Taiwan Railways 5-day pass, you can travel freely through Hualien and Taitung. Cycle from Yuli to Guanshan, enjoying the pastoral scenery with blue skies and green fields – what a refreshing experience! On the last day, head south from Yuli to Kaohsiung, then take the Tze-Chiang Limited Express 3000 back to the north, fulfilling the dream of a round-the-island train journey ❤️.

Take advantage of this buy-one-get-one-free subsidy for a backpacker train trip, planning to visit Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Kaohsiung. Traveling by train, walking, and MRT allows you to see different scenery than usual, so it's a great opportunity to make the most of this subsidy. It's excellent value.

Self-planned island tour, very convenient to use! The new Tze-Chiang 3000 train has comfortable seats, a drink holder, and space for luggage. The restrooms are also clean and spacious, saving a lot on transportation costs. It's a shame we encountered a typhoon and were stuck in Hualien and Taitung for four days, with trains suspended for three days due to the typhoon holiday! Luckily, there was accommodation assistance, so we stayed comfortably, but couldn't complete the trip.

This pass offers incredible value. I only used it for three days this time, and it even covered the Kaohsiung MRT. When I tried to enter the light rail, I was confused for a moment because I couldn't scan the QR code. I quickly called customer service, and surprisingly, they were very easy to reach and quickly resolved my query. For the Kaohsiung Light Rail, you can just enter directly and show your QR code if a ticket inspector asks for it.
