Chiayi: Alishan Day Tour & Multi-Day Tour from Chiayi

we had a nice trip with stay at Alishan Gou hotel. fetch from our hotel to Alishan train station. train uphill is a 3 hours ride. toilet on the train is rather rocky, is a fun experience though. the hotel is good just that hot water service for bathing is from 5pm to 11 pm only. hot and cold water dispenser available at hotel lobby. this hotel is good cos just outside the hotel is the giant trees trial. our lady tour guide at giant tree trial is v caring, knowledgeable and intro us to a lot of plants. shuttle service to hotel is every half an hour. morning sunrise need to take another train to 祝山。train station is just outside hotel convenience. downhill to 奋起湖 by minivan. bento is ok, but must try the mini donut there. Our tour guide downhill very considerate, caring and good driver. Hinoki village has some great photos. thank you to all our 3 tour guides driver to the station, at giant forest trail and downhill. would recommend this half free and easy trip to everyone visiting Alishan

I was drawn by the inclusion of the forest railway, so I booked a 2-day, 1-night Alishan trip (outbound: car, return: car + train). After the reservation was confirmed, I received information about what to bring and precautions via LINE. Closer to the date, I also received detailed information about the meeting point, driver's name, and vehicle number, which was reassuring. (All in Chinese, but translation software helped.) The documents provided when boarding the shuttle car also included Japanese, which was easy to understand. The guide spoke Chinese, so I needed someone to translate for me, but there was plenty of explanation time during the 2-hour hike. The paths were well-maintained with wooden decks and stone pavements, so even with my limited stamina and in the rain, I was able to walk comfortably. One word of caution: if you use a private car transfer, there's a high risk of motion sickness because the winding mountain roads have significant inclines. Even though I don't usually get car sick, I felt quite ill during the return transfer from Alishan to Fenqihu and wished I had brought motion sickness medication.

The best tour that Ive been on so far! The driver picked us up on time, had a bag with all the essentials including water, snacks, maps and got all our tickets ready. He was amazing in taking pictures and knew all the nice places! I was very happy although I was the only one who couldnt speak in Chinese, he explained it to me separately in English which I highly appreciated. As for the location, it was really pretty and although the roads were rough (especially for someone with motion sickness), I actually did not feel it after taking my medication and falling asleep as the van was very comfortable.

Don’t think it’s expensive but it worth it, especially for solo traveler. No need to rush the bus and took long travel time. Driver will explain some of the history to gain your knowledge and help everyone to take photo in every station he stop by. The pros is driver help to purchase train tickets and lunch box included. Will stop by at Fengqi, Tea garden, a few different walking trails on the way to alishan which you can’t go if you take buses. Also stop for washroom and give you tips how and where need to visit when inside the park. Although it just 2 hours inside the Alishan National Forest but it is enough if you not plan to climb up to the top. I enjoyed the tour and have good rest in mpv car. I also can see different scenery along the way. No rush and relax. The only regret is the weather not so good in the evening, can’t see beautiful sunset and seas if clouds. No fource purchase if bring to to souvenir store.

great trip n no rush at all . tour guide wu is good at his job n very detail explanations on history n development. hotel average only but like 5mins to Alishan train station as easier to catch sunrise train. steamboat dinner was good too

It was a great experience. This time I chose to take a small train to Alishan on the first day. Although the price is relatively high and it takes a long time to get to Alishan, the train to Alishan is an old-style train and is different from the regular trains. The platform is relatively small, so there are fewer seats and less space, and it’s shaky to sit up. However, you can enjoy the scenery along the train and watch the street view of Chiayi city starting from Chiayi Railway Station, and slowly switch to Alishan. The forest and mountain scenery, and finally getting off at the Cross Road Railway Station, is a very special experience! The advantage of joining a travel agency itinerary is that you don’t need to buy a train ticket to Zhushan Railway Station to watch the sunrise the next day, and there will also be a tour guide to explain the tour. It is very suitable for tourists who are visiting Alishan for the first time, and it can be done easily and simply Learn about Alishan, its characteristics and history. Some travel agencies in the hotel arranged for us to stay at Wenshan Hotel this time. It is an old hotel with no elevator, but the environment is neat and clean and well maintained! There was a small train at 5 a.m. the next day. There were also a lot of tourists that day. If you want to have a great location to watch the sunrise, I think you might need to queue up at the train station at least an hour in advance. The clouds were thick that day and I didn’t see the sunrise. It gives me a good reason to visit Alishan again next time! On the second day, we chose a private car to connect us and set off after 12 o'clock. We were free to explore Alishan before 12 o'clock. At first, we felt that we had plenty of time, but after walking the water and mountain trails recommended in the itinerary, we found that it was not enough. I really wanted to go there. Stay longer in Alishan! The driver and tour guide drove a little too hard on the return trip, which made me feel carsick. Along the way, we visited Fenqi Lake, Love Prairie, and Huiyi Life Village. Personally, I felt that the time spent at each stop was a bit too late. I could have deleted the relatively trivial Love Story. grassland. I arrived at Chiayi Railway Station at 5pm and ended the journey. Overall, it was a healing journey worth experiencing. After writing this review, I started to miss Alishan again~

This was a very well-organized trip. I wasn’t expecting much and this exceeded my expectations. From the confirmation whatsapp messages to answering my questions, the tour operator was quick to reply and understood what I was asking (in English). The day before, you are put into a large whatsapp group and everyone going on the tour is blasted messages to let them know which transfer vehicles they will be boarding. Different drivers and guides appear along the way. An information package with vouchers, maps, and the itinerary are given out the moment you meet your first driver. Large luggage are driven up to the hotel, the train ride up Alishan was fun and beautiful in an old swaying train, and upon arrival there is someone waiting to pick you up. Timings of when to be back are verbally given out, use a translator app if you cannot understand. Watch your timings. There are a lot of people waiting for the sunrise train, you get an option to switch to a bus to go to another location too.

Really recommended tour, the driver Mr. Xu pick up us at the hotel. While driving, he tell us the background story of alishan very detail. The itinerary also described very clear, all tickets and lunch included, so we don't have to worry about the ticket and meal. Really stress-free and enjoyable trip, love it

It’s a great journey as it was well organised and the information was available and reminded all the time. We got notifications of who and when we would be picked up and where to go. This two-days trip was just right for me and my family. It was not rushed and we had plenty of time to explore the Alishan Trils ourselves. The included vegetarian dinner and breakfast were great value. overall we are really enjoying this trip.

My experience taking this tour was quite satisfying and helpful. because I went with my 2 parents. departed in a large car with 7 people with other people who were not known, but the car was very comfortable, spacious and spacious. then got off with a typical old Alishan train. a bit noisy because the train was old, but the scenery (if not foggy) was very beautiful ... an impressive experience. for those who are still confused, and don't know what it will be like there .. maybe you can try it. 👍
