What to expect
Phase 1: Understanding Green Coffee Beans and Flavor Origins Starting from coffee cherries, green beans, origins, and processing methods, understand how coffee flavors are formed. The instructor will introduce common processing methods such as washed, natural, and honey processes, as well as the impact of different roasting levels on flavor, in an easy-to-understand manner.
Phase 2: Hand Roaster Demonstration and Operation Instructions The instructor will demonstrate the basic operation of a hand roaster, including flame distance, shaking technique, roasting rhythm, color judgment, aroma changes, and first crack observation. This allows beginners to safely and clearly grasp the key operating points.
Phase 3: Roasting Your Own Coffee Beans Each participant will personally complete a batch of hand-roasted coffee beans. From putting green beans into the pot, dehydration, yellowing, Maillard reaction, first crack, to dropping the beans, the instructor will provide guidance throughout, allowing you to experience the therapeutic process of coffee aroma gradually being released.
Phase 4: Brewing, Tasting, and Flavor Sharing Brew and taste the coffee beans you roasted yourself, learning to describe aroma, acidity, sweetness, and mouthfeel in simple language. By tasting your own work, you will understand the relationship between roasting level and flavor expression.
Phase 5: Taking Home Your Roasting Results After the experience, you can take home the coffee beans you roasted yourself as a souvenir of your journey, and share the aroma of Hualien coffee, made by your own hands, with family and friends.
