Xinbeitou Historic Station and Qixing Park

The original Xinbeitou station, opened in 1916, was restored in 2017 and now sits beside the MRT station. The building houses historical displays and often features craft and fruit stalls. Don't miss the free hot water bath for your hands in front of the station.

Beitou Hot Springs Park

Located across from Xinbeitou MRT station, this park features a hot spring creek originating from Beitou Thermal Valley. It's a great place to relax, stroll, and observe the steaming creek. Note that soaking your feet in the creek is no longer permitted.

Ketagalan Culture Center

This 12-story center houses art and cultural items from Taiwan’s main recognized aboriginal tribes. Named after the Ketagalan tribe, the center offers free entrance and features permanent displays and temporary exhibits.

Culture and History

Beitou is a district of Taipei City at the foot of Yangmingshan, a collection of mountain peaks that make up Yangmingshan National Park. The area is known for its 'white sulfur' hot spring water, which has been a significant part of its history since the Japanese colonial period. The Ketagalan tribe originally occupied the area, calling it 'Pataauw,' meaning 'Residence of the Witch.' Beitou's development began during the Japanese rule of Taiwan, and it has since become a major tourist destination. The station features a beautiful Japanese-style eaved roof with copper tiles and round dormer windows. Constructed with local red cypress, the station has been earthquake-proofed to ensure its continued survival.
