Universal Studios Japan Travel Tips
Secure Super Nintendo World Access Early: This zone almost always requires a Timed Entry Ticket (via the USJ app or staff) or an Express Pass to enter. Obtain it immediately upon park opening to guarantee entry and consider a Power-Up Band for interactive fun on rides like Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge.
Target Major Thrill Rides First (Hollywood & Beyond): For popular attractions like Hollywood Dream - The Ride (and Backdrop), Space Fantasy - The Ride, and Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, head straight there at park opening or utilize single rider lines to avoid peak wait times often exceeding an hour.
Navigate The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Strategically: Visit either right after opening or in the evening to experience Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey with fewer crowds, and don't forget to try the iconic Butterbeer.
Utilize the Official USJ App: This is your essential tool for real-time ride wait times, show schedules, and obtaining those crucial Timed Entry Tickets for high-demand zones.
Consider an Express Pass for Peak Days: If visiting on a busy day, an Express Pass is highly recommended by many visitors as it significantly cuts down on wait times for popular attractions, enhancing your overall park experience.
Must-ride attractions at Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan features eight captivating zones to explore. While we recommend a two-day visit if you're without an Express Pass, a single day is often enough to enjoy all the attractions with one!
1. Hollywood
Stepping into Universal Studios Japan immediately transports you to Hollywood, the park's vibrant entry point. Here, you'll find an array of souvenir shops and tempting eateries. Don't miss the Mario Cafe & Store, where you can snag the TikTok-famous Mario and Luigi Dessert Caps!
But Hollywood isn't just for shopping and snacks; it also boasts some of Universal Studios Japan's most exhilarating attractions. Thrill-seekers will want to make a beeline for Hollywood Dream - The Ride, Hollywood Dream - The Ride: Backdrop, and Space Fantasy - The Ride. These rides are incredibly popular, and their queues can stretch up to two hours, so heading there first is a smart move if you're looking for an adrenaline rush!
2. New York
Step into the New York zone and be transported to the glamorous streets of 1930s New York City. Here, you can explore iconic landmarks, from 5th Avenue to Delancey Street, immersing yourself in the era's unique charm.
If you visit during the holidays, you'll be greeted by a giant Christmas tree standing majestically in the heart of the area. This zone is also home to The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man 4K3D - The Ride, where you can team up with Spider-Man himself to take down notorious villains!
3. Minion Park

Are you a huge Minion fan? Then Minion Park is calling your name! This vibrant themed land is a feast for the eyes, with lively streets adorned in hues of yellow and blue. You'll find a plethora of quirky storefronts and playful attractions designed for visitors of all ages. Our top picks in Minion Park include Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and Freeze Ray Sliders!
4. Amity Village

Escape to Amity Village, a charming retreat that perfectly recreates the idyllic seaside charm of Amity Island from Steven Spielberg's iconic film 'Jaws'. The area boasts a quaint New England aesthetic, with weathered buildings and harbourside shops transporting you back to simpler times. It's also home to the thrilling JAWS ride, where you'll embark on a boat tour and just might encounter a very familiar "guest"!
5. Jurassic Park
Prepare for an unforgettable prehistoric adventure as you step into Jurassic Park! Pass through its iconic gates and instantly journey millions of years back in time. Here, you'll be enveloped by lush, towering foliage and the thrilling, unmistakable roars of life-sized dinosaurs.
This incredible zone is also home to one of our top picks: The Flying Dinosaur! Soar through the air at exhilarating speeds, feeling just like a bird on this incredible ride. And don't miss the legendary Jurassic Park - The Ride, an iconic water attraction that promises a big splash!
6. Super Nintendo World

Get ready to step into a living video game at Super Nintendo World, where the magic of the Mushroom Kingdom truly comes alive! As you enter through the iconic green warp pipe, you'll be instantly transported into a world of incredible architecture that many find they "never want to leave." Reviewers have even called Nintendo World a "blockbuster" and "its crown jewel"!
To ensure everyone gets to experience the magic, you'll need an Area Timed Entry Ticket to enter Super Nintendo World. You can secure these in advance through Klook (all of our express pass packages include them!), or obtain them on the day of your visit via the official Universal Studios Japan app or at a ticket kiosk in the park. Keep in mind that these tickets are very popular and can run out quickly, so grab yours as soon as possible!

Before you begin your adventure, we highly recommend grabbing a Power-Up Band. This interactive band lets you collect digital coins and engage with various elements throughout Super Nintendo World. You can even track your score against other teams directly on the USJ app. Plus, by collecting keys through mini-games with your band, you'll unlock an exclusive showdown against Bowser Jr. at Bowser's Castle!
The rides here are incredibly fun! Don't miss Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, a thrilling 4D experience that plunges you right into the game. Visitors agree it's "fun no matter how many times you ride it"! You'll hop into a kart, race through courses, and even hit your friends with items, just like in Mario Kart! We also suggest Yoshi's Adventure, where you can hop on Yoshi's back for a delightful sightseeing tour of Super Nintendo World.
While "the lines for the rides were not that long" for some, an Express Pass for Mario World "saved us so much time" and one guest noted they "skipped at least 200 people in line for our scheduled ride time" , reducing a 90-minute wait to "maybe 20 minutes". Express passes are "a must especially for Mario brothers world".
7. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Embark on a truly spellbinding journey as you enter The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Step into Hogsmeade Village and instantly be captivated by its snow-capped roofs, charming cobblestone streets, and the majestic, towering presence of Hogwarts Castle looming in the background.
This magical land offers more than just breathtaking sights. Catch enchanting performances like Wand Studies, and prepare for thrilling rides such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Flight of the Hippogriff. Just a heads-up: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is incredibly popular, so be prepared for a longer wait time! Reviewers frequently suggest considering an Express Pass if your chosen pass includes this ride, as it can significantly reduce your wait. As one guest mentioned, this flagship ride is a "must-do." Also, don't leave without trying the iconic Butterbeer; it's "surprisingly delicious and a perfect treat," according to many who have visited!
8. Universal Wonderland
Last but certainly not least, there's Universal Wonderland! This realm of joy is specifically designed to captivate the imaginations of the park's youngest visitors. It's an incredibly colorful wonderland filled with playful designs at every turn.
Families can explore Snoopy Studios, where the beloved Peanuts gang comes to life, or take a fun spin on Elmo's Go-Go Skateboard. This themed land is truly perfect for families with little ones! Plus, if you're a big fan of Hello Kitty, Universal Wonderland is your go-to spot for all sorts of adorable merchandise.
